You can lie about anything. Or, lie without lying. Confusing, right? No. Just make a situation seem one way, when really, it's completely different.
It's all about perspective.
Emma was facing Jake meaning that she wouldn't be able to see Sherlock come out from the washroom. To see him signalling to Jake that it was time to leave. Even easier for Jake to ask how? when Emma was gazing at Sherlock's beer.
See, Jake doesn't have a girlfriend.
He wasn't expected anywhere.
Yet he still left.
And Emma got fooled.
Because that's how Sherlock made it look.
It's all about perspective.
