"Good morning!" Jim said as he entered the diner.
"We've got breakfast!" Clara said excitedly as her and Me brought out trays carrying pancakes, butter, toast, and jam.
"I've never had food like this before," Jim said as he dug into his breakfast. "Mmmm, this is great!"
The had the TARDIS parked near an expressway near Las Vegas, Nevada. They ate their breakfast quickly and prepared the diner for customers.
Me pulled their journals off of the counter and placed them in their usual spot underneath the counter.
Clara and Me each put on their waitress uniforms and Me sat Jim down at one of the booths with coloring books and crayons.
They had discovered only last week that Jim had a passion for coloring, and he was good at it too.
Clara flipped the switch on the sign and it glowed, now reading "Open".
It was about six in the morning when their first customer came in.
"Nice to see a new place 'round here," he said before ordering a cup of coffee.
It wasn't long before the diner was buzzing with customers. Some kids would go to Jim's table every once in awhile and color with him. Clara and Me were happy to see that he made friends well.
"Clara," Me said. "A word?"
Me walked into the back room, which was really the TARDIS. Clara leaned on the console. "Yeah?" She asked.
"What are we going to do about Jim going to school?" Me asked. "We're never in one place for a long time, he's going to have a hard time making friends and learning, he's seven, and he's never been, don't you worry he's behind?"
"Have you forgotten that you're talking to a teacher?" Clara pointed out.
"Yeah, but what about other children?" He can't just learn everything from you,"
"I think he's doing alright," Clara said, peeking out of the TARDIS to see that Jim was having a great time coloring with the other children despite the fact that he was hidden away on his home planet for years.
"I think we should send him to school. We'll just see how he likes it. If he doesn't, we'll take him out," Me suggested.
"Fine," agreed Clara, trying not to be offended.
The went back out into the diner where they waited on their customers. Once their breakfast crowd had left, they cleaned up and started preparing for lunch.
Clara brought Jim a sandwich.
"When am I going to school?" He asked her.
"Do you want to go to school?" She sat down next to him and looked at his coloring pages.
"The other kids were talking about it. It sounds like fun," he said.
"Okay then, I'll start looking for schools," she took her sandwich from Me and began to eat it.
Me sat down across from Clara and Jim.
"I'm going to take the afternoon off," Clara announced. "I think we need to find Jim a school,"
Jim smiled. Me seemed pleasantly surprised that Clara agreed with the idea.
