Niall didn’t answer me for a few minutes, and I didn’t ask any questions.

We just kind of sat there in an awkward silence, staring into each other’s eyes, listening to the antics of Alex Russo.

We don’t dare look away from each other to the TV even though we could clearly hear some fucking intense stuff going down. Something about a warewolf and Alex exposing the entire wizard community.

“I can’t tell whether you’re being awkward teenagers or you’re having a moment…”

Both of our heads snap toward the door where Erica was standing, holding a caramel ribbon crunch.

You know what I can’t tell? Whether I’m grateful for the distraction or whether I want to tie her apron strings around her throat and gag her, because she’s interrupting possibly the best minutes of my entire life.

Okay, maybe not best.

I wouldn’t say that staring into Niall’s eyes has been entertaining... Searching them to find little white flecks here and there... Looking to see how his eyes shook as he searched mine as well—psh, not entertaining in the least bit!

But this--this moment? It rank pretty high up on the scale. Kind of because I feel lucky and awesome, like I’m floating on cloud nine, but mostly because I’m boring and have literally done nothing my entire life.

Erica takes a sip from the green straw and continues to stare down at us, “So.” she takes a step in the door and slips off her toms, “What’s going on with the superstar and the not-so-super star?”

I roll my eyes at her, but mutter, “Bitch,” before looking toward a painting on the wall.

Niall lets out a laugh and Erica’s eyes narrow toward me, “Don’t forget that I can send you back to your house,” she raises an eyebrow at me, “TV dinners and long talks with your dog.”

I don’t even have a dog. The only pet that’s at my house is a fish. And he’s cared for by Jeffery, the housekeeper that has to do almost nothing. Because: Surprise! Nobody’s ever home. But now that I think about it, maybe Jeffery could be counted as a pet.

There' are only two pets at my house, “I love you.”

She walks the hall toward her bedroom, still sipping lazily on her drink, “Whatever, slut.”

I feel something vibrate on the couch, and Niall’s hand snaps to his pocket. He pulls out his iPhone and clicks across the screen a couple of times, “Shit,”

“What?”

“Louis is about to have my ass,” He gets up from the couch with his cup and walks toward the kitchen.

“Why?”

“The boys and I only have so many nights to ourselves, we’ve got a few days here in Seattle and we were supposed to go out, just the five of us-“

“What time is it?”

Niall raises his iPhone at me to show me the time, “Ten O'clock."

I grab the phone out of his hand, "It can't possibly be that late!"

Niall snatches the phone back from me, "Time, my dear,” he takes one last sip of his tea before putting it into the sink, “is one of the most inconsistent yet consistent things on this planet,” he puts his hands on either side of the counter, trapping me so close to him… “When you want things to go fast, time simply drags on. But when you beg the moments to last longer than they’re meant to, they decide to run a race, leaving you behind, wondering where all of them went.” His face is closer than it’s ever been, surprising, considering I’ve been all up in his grillz like, all day.

Okay. I’m very white. Very American. I really shouldn’t say “Grillz.”

“I’m very sorry that our moments decided to run instead of walk.” As he leans in close to my face, I shut my eyes, preparing myself for what I was sure would be the most amazing moment throughout my entire exsistance.

I feel a very soft, very plump, very nice set of lips land where they weren’t supposed to—my forehead—and to say the very least, I was very disappointed.

“Have a nice night, Megan.”

It wasn’t until he had already walked out the door that I was able to choke out, “You too…”
