I left the meeting that day and for the first time the Sun was shinning like an Angel. I was suppose to meet Jace at dinner for a brunch type deal. I drive there in a hurry. For some reason I knew that this date would be so special. My phone began ringing but I figures it was business and all I wanted to do at this point was tell Jace how I felt about him. I didn't want to miss my chance at being happy. Because he made me happy.
So I sat at the dinner. Ready for him to walk through the doors at any moment. Ready to kiss him and say " I love you." two hours passed. I kept looking at the door, no-one ever showed. At least no-one who meant the world to me. I pulled out my phone for the fifth time, the missed call still on there from that random number. Who wanted to talk?
I listened to the voicemail ......tears began to well up in my eyes and I felt my heart drop.
" Hey baby , it's Jace. I've got a lot of work to do. I promise you I will stop by you're place tonight. Love you. " then the end tone clicked and I closed the phone? Without deleting the message.
What the heck?! I've been setting here for two hours!!!wgat happened to Jaces phone?! Couldn't he call me on a number I recognized??? I mean who answers random numbers?! Certainly notme !!!.
I got up and slammed the diner door as I walked out. The Sun had been covered by clouds by now. A short lived warmth seemed so far behind me. I got in the truck and drove home. Jace was in the driveway. I slammed the car in park and got out.
" where have you been?" he asked accusingly. He wasn't going to start this with me. No, not when I waited so long.
" tell me Jace, what happened to you're phone? Why are you calling from random numbers? And who were you with?" I didn't mean for the words to shoot out of my mouth but they did.
" there was no girl!!! I was at work!" he said grabbing ahold of me gently but I pulled away. I was not stupid.
" yes? Psh, you were working on something alright. Don't lie to me." He stood there. Neither one of us moved. We just stood there. Until he finally spoke.
