Melanie’s P.O.V.
I had lost track of time while reading and before I knew it, it was getting darker and darker out.
One more chapter.
One more chapter.
I didn’t stop until I had finished the book. Of course I left my phone back at Ed’s so I was completely unaware of the time. All I know is that it’s past 5.
Re-tracing my tracks back, I got lost in my head. I’ve grown used to thinking about anything and everything. The only noises around were the crunching of rocks under my boots and the few cars that were passing me by. The glow of the street lamps lit my way back to Ed’s.
“Where were you? It’s 9 0’clock” Harry stood up off the couch when I entered the house.
“Sorry got caught up”
“We’ve got some leftovers with your name on it” Harry started towards the kitchen.
“Oh thanks but I already ate.” I lied. We sat in the living room in silence watching the TV until Ed piped up.
“There’s a party tomorrow at Tom’s. You two wanna come?”
“I’ll pass but you guys-“ Harry cut me off.
“Yeah, we’ll go.” He smiled innocently at me.
“Sweet, see ya tomorrow” Ed spoke, walking to his room.
Harry and I were both sitting in our beds on our phones before I broke the silence.
“I really don’t think I should go. I’m not exactly a ‘people person’.”
“Come on. It’ll be fun. I won’t leave your side.” He begged.
“Promise?”
“I promise.” He held up his pinky.
We turned off the lights and got comfortable in our beds.
“I forgot to ask you, have you ever been to one of our concerts?”
“Once. My dad took me.” I replied.
“Your dad sounds like he was a cool guy.”
“He was.” I smiled in the darkness.
Minutes passed as I stared up at the ceiling.
“Harry?”
“Yeah?”
“You were always my dad’s favorite. He said you’ve got the nicest voice.” I whispered.
Everything was silent until I heard Harry’s sleeping bag rustle around. I felt him climb into my bed and he wrapped his arms around me. He started humming a familiar tune and soon started singing along.
“Shut the door
Turn the light off
I wanna be with you
I wanna feel your love
I wanna lay beside you
I cannot hide this
Even though I try.”
This was the first night that I had fallen asleep without my pills.
