harry wanted to help louis with whatever was scaring him.
louis was so beautiful. he was so delicate like a soft daffodil. his smile alone could melt the ice caps. harry loved looking at him. he loved watching his eyes twinkle when he giggled. he felt strongly for this kid he hardly knew. harry wanted louis to be happy and safe and loved.
"louis do you like ice cream?"
louis looked up revealing his blackened face and raised an eyebrow.
"do you?"
"mr. styles, would you like to tell the class what is so important that you must ask mr. tomlinson in the middle of my class?"
harry blushed and glanced at louis who had his face hidden again. "o-okay. I was asking mr. tomlinson if he would go on a date with me after school."
the teacher rolled her eyes chuckling at harry's cheeky personality. "well let louis think about it for the rest of class and he'll tell you when the bell rings. for now, pay attention."
louis blushed profusely. his dad was out of town for the week for business but louis thinks he is just going to spend the week in the bar with random women. which means, louis could go out with harry.
after 20 more minutes, the bell rang for the end of the day.
harry looked at louis who was putting his stuff in a small, brown, ripped and tattered bag. louis' other sleeve was slightly above his wrist and harry saw a bruise around louis' wrists in the shape of a grown man's hand. harry's eyes widened. but he kept his mouth shut.
louis stood up and looked at harry. "yes"
harry, who was still thinking about the bruise, snapped out of it, "what?"
"yes i will go with you." louis smiled. harry lit up and stuck out his hand for louis to take. he flinched it the movement, but hesitantly took harry's hand.
****
louis' eyes were huge as he looked at all the different kinds of ice cream. he hasn't had ice cream in such a long time. his dad would eat it in front of him and rub it in louis face that he couldn't have any.
the ice cream shop was next to harry's house. he went there a lot because his mum was never home to tell him no. he used to come here with her when he was little and she paid attention to him.
"what flavor do you want?" harry asked louis.
"cookie dough please please."
harry walked up to the counter and smiled at kate who works there. "hey kate, can i have 2 harry special?" she nodded and he gave her the money.
louis giggled, "the harry special?" he covered his mouth as he giggled.
"i come here at least 2 times a week. it's why i'm kinda chubby."
"i think you're perfect." there was a pause, then suddenly louis' entire face turned red. "i...i didn't mean to... uh...."
harry smiled a huge smile. he felt pretty good in that moment. kate handed them their ice cream and they walked outside. "the harry special is 2 scoops of cookie dough ice cream with fudge, caramel, and whipped cream with little chocolate chips and extra cookie dough."
louis nodded. "where are we going?"
harry pointed to a big, neat, white house with red trim. "it's my house. i thought we could sit outside by the pool or i have a treehouse and a hammock. whatever you want."
louis just nodded and let harry lead him to the back yard. it was gigantic. a beautiful pool and a large patch of just beautiful green grass. it was a cloudy day so it wasn't unbearably hot, but knowing englands weather, harry expected rain. but for now, he just wanted to talk to louis. louis ran over to the hammock swinging slightly in the wind between two trees. louis sat on it and harry sat next to him.
"do like your ice cream?"
louis nodded as he was taking a bite and got whipped cream on his nose. he crossed his eyes to look at the cream on his nose. harry giggled and wiped louis' nose off with his napkin. "cute," harry said. soon he blushed not meaning to say it out loud but not going to take it back.
"you don't have to compliment me," louis said. "not out of pity."
harry was a little offensive, "i compliment you because i mean it. i mean it when i say you're cute. or when i say your nose is adorable. or the cute innocent crinkles you get by your eyes when you're laughing. or your gorgeous eyes that are so clear i get lost in them. or your cute little lips and how you manage to get ice cream all over them even though you're eating with a spoon. don't doubt yourself louis. you're a precious little peach."
louis' breath hitched. harry can't really mean all that.
"and i know you said we can't be friends, but i don't want to have you not in my life." harry said.
louis nodded. his heart was beating so fast and he wanted to cry. no one ever compliments him. he felt so good in that moment. he leaned over and kissed harry's cheek and pulled back. harry turned his head so their faces were only a few centimeters away.
and god did harry want to lean in when they heard a window slam shut and louis flinched and curled inwards a bit. harry looked up to see niall standing the hide the now closed window in niall's room.
"is that niall?"
harry nodded.
"you live next to him?"
harry nodded.
"and you guys broke up?"
harry nodded.
"well he gave up something great," louis said leaning closer to harry, "he didn't deserve you, harry."
harry looked up.
"no one does," louis whispered more to himself than to harry. he was going to say something else when he forgot what it was as he looked into harry's eyes. they were a beautiful sparkling green.
suddenly, a rain drop lands on harry's forehead and another on his arm. soon it was pouring and harry grabbed louis' arm gently and led him inside. it was just as big and gorgeous inside the house.
"it's so pretty."
"lonely. it's lonely," harry corrected, "my mom won't be home until very late so it's all just me. it always is."
louis looked at the sad look on harry's face. "well i'm here now. let's do something!"
"what do you want to do?"
louis looked around and saw a bookshelf filled with books, games, and movies. he saw the friends series on dvd and smiled at harry. "got any popcorn?"
