Where did it all go wrong?

Everyone assumes from the amount of video games they play that they'll be ready for the apocalypse, but the cold hard truth is- that when it finally hit, not a damn person was prepared. Most people were out and about attending to business, considering that it was still daytime out in L.A and a rather warm day as usual. No one could have known that this shit storm was coming, everyone had thought that this was just a figment of their imagination, made up to provide amusement on a gaming station.

People began to become hostile almost immediatly, everyone trying to grab supplies and seek shelter if they were smart enough- then again there were so many... "Living dead" for a reason. Too many people had decided to panic right off the bat, running into the streets, yelling and screeching like animals, mostly just letting all sense of logic or caution completely escape them. Hell, half of the world's population had killed themselves on the first day in fear of turning into one of those monsters; others becoming mass murderers since they knew they could get away with it without gaining any punishment. The world that everyone had known before was lost in less than a week.

Only the collected could survive now, those who took most of the unfortunate situations that fell upon this planet with feigned grace yet kept their humane outlook towards the other people in this world. They were the strong, those who were scared, mentally disabled, handicapped, even children were all considered the weak too most of the still "human" inhabitants of earth, thus they usually were killed on the spot. Most people didn't agree with that since there were parents, most who had parents that were older, some of which had children that were still young or newborn even.

See that photograph? A treasured memory, perhaps to a family of three or four; well don't start to feel bad yet- because all it is now is just a memory. That was the former look of Kai before this world descended to chaos, she was one of the few to survive the first week by recieving help by those kind enough to still care- and making correct choices with the hardest decisions she faced.

It was day 63 of the apocalypse, the world was in discord and the government had given up on most huge countries- given the lack of bullets being manufactured no one really had to guess why. The only reason that Kai had lasted this long was 1. She chose a smart weapon and stocked her backpack to the brim at the beginning of the apocalypse; and 2. She tried to avoid people that gave her a bad feeling in the pit of her gut, or just flat out looked like murderers. That being said at the moment she didn't look like the sweetest human being alive either, her hair wasn't styled, only spiked by the blood in it from when she ran her hands through the blonde mess when panicked. Her once bright emerald green eyes were now a dull olive, robbed of most emotions she once retained from past experiences. Clothes tattered and torn, drenched in blood which made her skin just as red- as well as her face considering how many times she had been grabbed or pinned by a bloodthirsty monster. The truth was, that those comics most people saw as kids about zombies wanting brains simply wasn't true. They wanted to consume all of you, the would rip you open and make your insides your outsides before they even thought about touching your head. Mostly because that's how more zombies we're created, they still had their brain intact allowing them to function with minimal thought.

After a while though most people became numb to killing things, or at least realized the ability to put down the bad people/zombies quickly- was a necessity. Now here Kai was, pressed against a wall in a crouched position as her breathing became quiet yet erratic. She could hear the bloodcurdling screams of a woman that she could no longer help, the groans and disturbing cries of the monsters tearing her apart only growing louder. The female clenched her fist tighter around the sheathe of her medium sized blade, one that would look like a sword in any child's hand. "I'm so sorry..." She whispered. Kai may have not known the female, but she pitied anyone who suffered their end by being torn apart by rotting hands- glared at by useless eyes while being feasted on while still alive.
