I was in fifth grade math class when it started, and it was because I wasn't paying enough attention. The teacher always wrote almost exactly what she would say on the blackboard, so I decided to let my thoughts wander.
My imagination would not take me anywhere interesting that day–nowhere I wanted to stay and focus on rather than fractions, that is. I stared at the light on the ceiling above her head. I didn't have the slightest idea why, and I didn't even know I was doing it. My breathing had slowed and my body had stiffened. About four minutes passed, then like a strobe light, my vision flickered. Light, dark. Light, dark. It couldn't have been me blinking, because I was staring.
Before I could get out of the trance, dimness overtook my vision
I was sucked into a dark abyss.
