My knees grew weak and I fell to the floor, crying. Crying like I've never cried before in my life. Blood was everywhere. All of the furniture was either torn up or broken. The windows were shattered and cracked. I wasn't even sure if this was my house anymore. I looked back towards the door and saw a man in all black dragging two figures out of the house. They were all bruised and cut up. They had duct tape over their mouths and were tied up. Those figures were my parents.

"Wait! STOP!" My scratchy little voice attempted to yell. They didn't stop. I grabbed the nearest piece of glass and flung it at their face. They dodged it and instead of stopping, I saw them bring something out of their pocket and raise it up towards me. My dad then squirmed and the next thing I heard was a gun shot, and a shooting pain in my right shoulder. I fell back again and my head hit something as I hit the floor. I looked beside me to see a crushed photo of me and my family. It was on my father's birthday. We had just got back from the zoo and were about to eat cake when it was taken. We were all very happy then. I wish those days could come back. But it is times like these where I lose all hope to go on.

I started to get up from the floor but my shoulder was in such pain that I hit the floor again. I started to cry and that was all I heard as my vision became a blur and then everything became black.

As my eyes fluttered open, all I saw was a bright light. It was quite blinding actually. I started to hear voices but I couldn't make out what they were saying. Flashbacks of what happened last night flooded my mind. I wanted to cry, but couldn't. I wanted to go home, but couldn't. I wanted my parents, but couldn't.

"Its your time to go now. It's okay. You can come home. It's okay. It's okay. It's oka-" a soft voice said.
"Wha-.....huh?" Is all I could get out.
My vision was still a blur and I could sort of see.... Clouds? Am I flying? Beautiful music started to play and I saw golden gates above. Where am I? Is this....

Then everything became clear and I saw machines all around me. I looked to my right and saw flowers and balloons that said 'Get Well Soon' on them. I looked to my left and saw my boyfriend, Paul, sitting in a chair asleep. He was holding a teddy bear that held a heart with some words on it that I couldn't make out due to my wacky vision. My head was pounding and that dumb beeping noise going on somewhere wasn't making it any better. I then realized I was in a hospital. I reached for the flowers but dropped them on the floor. I sighed, not knowing that my small clumsy act would wake Paul up. He came by my bed a little faster than what may have been necessary and kissed my forehead. I smiled as he brought the teddy bear to my arms. I then saw that it read: 'Paul & Cassidy'. I hugged it closer and brought Paul's face to me and kissed his cheek.
"Thank you."

Later on, after some small talk and enjoying each other's company, I finally decided to get down to business. It's not really business, it's just... more important than whether or not owls can move their eyes; our current topic.
"Hey, Paul?"
"Yea?"
"How did I get here?"
Paul looked down at his hands and didn't say anything. He almost looked like he wanted to...cry?
"Paul? What's wrong? Did you still want to talk about owls?"
Paul softly chuckled to himself before bringing the chair closer to my bed and sitting back down in it. He looked at me with a serious expression. His stare was so deep that his eyes were burning holes in mine.
"Cassidy, I love you. You know that, right?"
I nodded my head. Me and Paul have been together for almost 4 years now. We've only dated though because we both agree that marriage should come later in our lives.
"Well..." Paul took a deep breath and shook his head. Why is this so hard for him?
"I came over to see if you wanted to go out for breakfast with me and... When I got there I saw your parents being dragged out of the house by this man. I tried to stop him. I started hitting him and scratching at his face but he was too strong. He pushed me to the driveway and got in a black van and drove away. I made my way into your house and saw...." His voice grew shaky and I knew why.
"I saw you." He finished.
"You seemed unconscious so I ran to you and scooped you in my arms and ran to my car and drove here. I didn't even pay attention to the condition you were in. The fact that you had been shot. I just wanted to get you to safety." At this point, Paul had tears running down his face. I was just in complete shock that Paul happened to show up. This was a miracle.
"Paul. Thank you. I can't thank you enough. If you hadn't come that morning, I could be... dead." I looked down and soon tasted my salty tears running into my mouth. The memory reminiscing in my mind. He hugged me softly, careful not to mess with the bandages on my shoulder. I hugged him back tighter, knowing I owe my life to this man here in front of me.
"I love you, Cassidy."
"I love you too, Paul."
