CHAPTER 3
Fluttershy relaxed her wing letting the filly fall a few inches into the makeshift basket-bed that she had made. The filly's wings spread slightly until she landed with a soft thud on the three tiny pillows that were covered with a plush baby blue blanket covering the bottom of the basket. The foal gave a small shiver, barely shaking the purple and yellow curls that made up her mane.
"Oh, you poor thing. I still cant't believe you were left in the rain all by yourself," whispered Fluttershy as she placed the lavender blanket back over the filly. "Now let's take your temperature." She brought a thermometer toward the foal's mouth. The closer Fluttershy came with the thermometer however, the more the filly resisted. "Oh please, just open up a little bit. It won't take long at all. I just want to see if you're sick."
The foal's blue eyes looked up at Fluttershy defiantly. "I'm sorry. I-I-I don't like having my temperature taken either. I-just-I want t-to know if you're sick so I can help you get better," Fluttershy whimpered. She didn't like confrontation, especially with things that were tiny and cute. The filly's lip quivered and her eyes filled with tears as she began to shriek and sob loudly.
Fluttershy threw herself under her bed and began to sob as well, only her sobs were small and quiet. "I-I-I can't take c-care of a foal. They a-a-aren't like animals. I-I-I'm a-a-a failure! W-what am I g-gonna do?"
The filly stared at Fluttershy and stopped crying. She heaved a tiny sigh and blew a violet curl out of her eyes. She opened her mouth, finally giving in. Fluttershy, however, continued to sob and didn't notice for a few more minutes. When she finally did, she said sheepishly,"oh, sorry." She got up with the thermometer and stuck it into the filly's reluctantly open mouth.
The red liquid inside the thermometer rose until it hit the tip of the thermometer itself. "Oh dear," breathed Fluttershy as she pressed a hoof to the filly's pink forehead, "you're burning up." Fluttershy looked around in her wooden medicine cupboard until she found a bottle of pink medicine. Behind her came the foal's tiny sneeze. She poured a small mont of the medicine on a silver teaspoon and brought it toward the foal's mouth. The foal turned her head in protest. Fluttershy sighed. This was going to be a long night.
