Chapter IV

When You Want It The Most, There's No Easy Way Out

Ruby's POV

After breakfast I had let Jareth and Sarah have some time alone. Not that they needed it, but I had also gotten into re-reading a book I loved. So I had retired to the Library. I was currently curled up in an arm chair reading The Percy Jackson series. I had read all of them and the Heroes Of Olympus series that followed it, many times. I am a large fan of them because they are actually pretty close to reality. For instance, Aphrodite was actually stuck up. Her beauty had gone to her head, which made her think she was better than everyone else. We didn't get on, she was to poppas for my liking. That and I may or may not have offended her when I pointed out to her that the only reason she is alive it because Kronos, father to the Olympians, roped his brothers into helping hem kill Oranos, Kronos's father, and tossed his ball sack in to the ocean, creating Aphrodite. Hera wasn't all she appears to be either...

I was thrown out of my thoughts by the feeling of two hands resting on my shoulders. I closed my eyes and rested back into the touch. I didn't need to open my eyes to know who it was.

"Reading anything interesting?" Gareth asked, massaging my shoulders, digging his thumbs in deep to the soft spot at the base of my neck. I hmm'd a reply and he chuckled.

He moved around to the front of me and laid on the floor. I looked at him confused, then moved off the arm chair, crossing my legs on the floor.

He looked down his chest at me and sighed.

"Penny for your thoughts?" I said. Since I had become human, I had lost quite a bit of power. I wasn't massively effected because I did most things as a human anyway, but I had lost the part of my that allowed me to see what he was thinking. I could still talk to him in my mind, but only if he wanted me to. It was only with him too, because of how close we are.

He smiled lightly and his eyes settled under his closed lids. "Jareth and Sarah, getting married."

I smiled too. "I know."

In the six months after Sarah had run the Labyrinth, I had foreseen her return. Gareth and I had agreed not to say anything to Jareth because the future can always change. But Gareth and I were the ones who had to look after Jareth. It was strange. In those six months, everything had changed with him, something was missing. The first two months, he never left his chambers, and didn't eat at all. If it hadn't been for his Fae blood, he would have just died. But it also made him worse. His Fae blood kept him alive, and he looked like a skeleton. His boned were visible through his skin, his cheek bones looked like they would cut through any day. After that, he had started to plot his revenge on Sarah, to the point where he went to the above ground to do so. I stopped him before he got to her house. If he had seen nothing had changed, that it was still the same day... God only knows what would have happened. Instead I took him to the park where Sarah had practiced all those plays when she was younger. And even some at her, at the time current age, of twenty.

I talked with Jareth and, in time, helped him see that, love and hate were one in the same thing. That's why the greek gods Aphrodite and Aries are together. Love and War just... Fit. Jareth soon realised how much he loved Sarah.

***Flash Back***

"What do I do Ruby?" Jareth asked, looking up at me as we sat on the park bench.

"What do you mean?" I asked, slightly confused. I had just gotten Jareth to realise how much he loved Sarah. He loved her enough to come up here.

"About Sarah. How do I get her to come back to me? I realise now that I, obviously, hadn't gone about displaying my affection the right way."

I tried and succeeded, narrowly, to hide the amusement at how Jareth had thought it was affectionate to almost kill her.

"There is nothing you can do I am afraid. When you want it the most there's no easy way out. But don't give up on your faith, Love comes to those who believe in it."

Jareth sighed and placed his head in his hands. "Why? Why is it so..." He sighed again and shook his head.

"Complicated?" I asked and he nodded, head still in his hands. "Because that's life."

He nodded lightly and we returned to the castle.

***Present***

"Your doing it again." I snapped my head back up to look at Gareth, who was studying my face, trying to figure out what I was thinking about. Laughed lightly and yawned.

"Tired my love?" Gareth asked, stroking my cheek with his now raised thumb.

I nodded and moved to replace my book back to its place on the shelf.

When I turned Gareth was stood in front of me. He took me into his arms and we appeared in our bedroom.

I got in the bed and he got in behind me. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me back into his hard chest, kissing my neck soothingly until I drifted into a deep sleep.

Hi Guys, thought I'd try something different by writing from Ruby's POV. What do you think of her and Gareth's relationship? I also tried to fill in some of the blanks in the six months after Sarah ran the Labyrinth. What do you guys think?

Your comments and suggestions are always welcomed.
