"Are you sure you want to do this?" Owen asked me.
Right now, we were at the airport. I had gotten all my stuff together and I was now waiting to board a plane to London. I've got to admit, I was really nervous.
But I already had everything all planned; where I was going to live, where I was going to work, and everything else important. I rented a small apartment to live in. It's only about 3 blocks away from where I'll work, so I won't really need a car.
"I'm positive. I'm so ready to get out of this place. Start fresh you know?"
"I know. I'll just miss you." He looked at me with sadness in his eyes.
‘I’ll miss you too.” I reached out and wrapped my arms around his neck. He reacted fast wrapping his arms around my waist.
It was so hard having to leave him. He was my only real friend, aside from Kennedy. Kennedy. I forgot to say goodbye to her.
“I forgot to say goodbye to Kennedy.”
“I’ll tell her you we’re leaving in a rush and didn’t get to say bye to anyone else either.”
“Thank you so much. What would I do without you?”
“Probably be stuck at your parent’s house until July, like you were supposed to!” He says and smiles.
I smile back.
“Flight 176 to London now boarding.” The woman spoke over the intercom.
“That’s my cue.” I said looking down. I was starting to feel guilty about just leaving my parents just a note. Maybe I should call them. They at least deserve to know that I left. No they don’t. They treated me so bad over the years. I shouldn’t have even left them a note.
“Earth to Megan!” Owen was waving a hand in front my face, probably because I zoned out of what he was saying.
“What? Sorry, I’m just thinking.”
“I said you should probably get going.” Owen looked at me with that same sadness. I tried to blink the tears that formed in my eyes. I gave him one last hug and picked up my bag. I walked towards the gate without looking back, because I knew if I looked back, I would change my mind.
I made it onto the plane before I let the tears fall. Out of sadness and happiness. Sadness because I was going to miss everyone, and happiness because I was getting to start fresh. Start a new life with new people, and my almost-dream job.
It was going to be perfect.
