The three siblings, despite looking similar were very different personality wise.
Matt the oldest, was known and feared throughout their neighborhood. He had made quite a name for himself. Despite being only in the second grade, he was known to take down kids over half his size. (Which is funny because he was tall for his age).
Not to mention he was friends with the toughest kid in their grade.
Al .
No one could remember a time when they weren't friends. They had a friendship built on trust. And despite his cold exterior, he did have a soft spot for his siblings. And made it crystal clear to leave them alone. A fight with one of them was a fight with him. So the majority of the time, no one dared.
Matthew. Noone really noticed Matthew. Or that he was even there most of the time.Being the middle child rarely caused him any problems. It was his shyness that made it difficult to make friends. On the rare occasions he was social with the other 1st graders. He could be seen with Arthur, Francis, and Alfred. But that was all.
The youngest sibling.Madeline.
Had inherited Matthew's shyness. Until she had started school, no one had known she even existed. Being the youngest sibling they were naturally very, protective of her.
On the second day of Kindergarten.
A new student was introduced. She called herself "Amelia" ,she was a very cheerful girl and very friendly. And despite being very different, took almost right away to Madeline.
Amelia had a rivalry with another classmate.
Elizabeth, who always came to school with a new bruise. "You cannot solve all of your problems by hitting them Amelia" she sounded as if she spoke from experience, and it was likely she had. Soon the teachers caught onto this.
But not before Elizabeth just vanished. Not a trace. Not anything except her empty cubby next to Madeline's. Along with the seat she left behind. "The haze took her away", Amelia said. And not another word was spoken about the subject. They never saw her again.
Everyday when school was over the siblings walked home.
A stranger smiled at with pity in their eyes watching them. Worriedly as if afraid for them as they walked by. Matt scowled and walked on, he hated pity, he was not afraid why should they be? He had learned that worrying got you nowhere. Matthew smiled back at the kind stranger. Then ushered Madeline along. Holding her hand. Matthew always did that. As if a gust of wind could blow her away at any moment if he did not hold her tight.
Every time since Elizabeth's disappearance, she could feel the haze growing nearer, and nearer. She held onto her brother's hand tightly. He would protect her.
She stared upward onto the sky. Not paying attention to where she walked. She heard arguing her brothers were arguing. She walked further away. Following the clouds she saw. Her brother's hand let go on accident. And she fell backwards. Her eyes widened. She heard the screeching of tires, and screaming.
The haze was coming.
