Daddy's Investment- Harry Part Two

It’s been one week; one week since Harry tried to profess his love for me and I walked away, my heart still on that stupid  restaurant’s plate.

I hadn’t forgotten what he had said, and in fact I memorized every single word of it, repeating it to myself in attempt to numb the pain that was still burning in my chest.

Harry tried calling several times a day, leaving several text messages as well, but I didn’t have the heart to read them. In all honesty, I was terrified. I knew if I took one look at what he had to say, my attempt to get over him would all be put to waste. All it took was him saying those three simple words, and I’d come running back to him, and I hated the fact I was so weak.

He was to be getting married, why should he risk the band for me?

I could barely support myself financially, and I would never be attractive enough to be on any magazine cover. Why would he pick me? His fiancé was undeniably gorgeous, with her Daddy’s wallet that could probably feed half of Africa, just by the cash he carried around with him. Harry would be better off with her, and I was selfish to let my feelings get in the way.

Fortunately, Harry hadn’t texted me at all  yet, so I sat my couch for the better half of the morning, my hair put up in a messy bun, a baggy sweater and yoga pants, not planning to go outdoors anytime soon. I had put in a comedy movie, clutching a pillow to my chest, attempting to preoccupy myself and trying to get rid of the empty feeling in me. Why can’t I just get over him already? I glanced at my phone on the coffee table, reminding myself it was a good thing I haven’t gotten a text. “Maybe he realized what’s good for him” I muttered, drawing my eyes back to television screen. “Hopefully”

An impatient knock on my door caused me to jump, confusion washing over me. “Who would be at my door? It’s not even noon yet” I muttered, making my way to the door. I opened the door just slightly, peeking to see who it was, but Harry’s slender figure slipped through the doorframe, slamming it behind him.

“What are you doing here?” I gasped, stumbling back, my heart accelerating as I watched the god-like man with wide eyes. He was still dressed in his pajamas, a heavy overcoat covering his baggy muscle shirt, white, blue and gray plaid pajama pants, his hair looking like he just got out of bed.

“Did you just wake up?” I asked, noticing he hadn’t responded to my first question. He shook his head, an annoyed laugh leaving his lips. “I haven’t slept since you left the Italian restaurant.” He replied, his green eyes now lifeless, black circles under his tired eyes. He was pale, and looked like he’s been crying, skipping meals as well. “Why’d you leave?” He whispered, his voice cracking. “And don’t say it’s because of your friend. I could care less about her, she doesn’t even like me! All she likes is my money! I’m talking about you and me” He closed the distance between the two of us, his chest pressed against mine, his large hands gently holding onto my elbows, not letting me avoid his gaze. “Why did you leave? I know you like me. And I… I love you. Why are you acting like this?” He mumbled, his peppermint breath calming my racing mind. I shook my head, gulping as I avoided his eyes, fixing them on the sparrows that peeked out of his hirt.

“She’s everything I’m not, Haz.” I mumbled, blinking to avoid the tears stinging for release. “She can support herself, she’s beautiful, she’s-“

“You honestly think that?” He scoffed, taking my chin and making me look back up at him.

“You’re everything she’s not; kind, warm hearted, funny… gorgeous” He whispered, his eyes scanning mine, hope painted in his green irises. In one swift motion, he let go of my arms and cupped my face, crashing his lips onto mine.

My eyes widened, and I instinctively placed my hands on his chest, heat rising to my cheeks as he moved deeper into the kiss, silently begging me to return the favor.

Him being so close, his lips fitting perfectly on mine, it felt right. The weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders, happiness finding its way back into my heart as I kissed back, wrapping my arms around his neck.

“I’ve waited so long for this” he mumbled against my lips, sliding his hands down to my waist, pulling me as close as humanly possible. “Me too” I whispered, causing him to smile in between kisses, his touch gentle yet passionate, everything I’ve ever dreamed of and more.

                “Ahem”

We yanked away from each other to see his fiancé in the doorway, her hands on her hips. Panic rose in my throat as I stumbled forward, scrambling for words. “Oh my gosh, I’m so-“

                “Save it”

I froze as I watched her face, going from unphased to smiling in seconds, and I tilted my head to the side, furrowing my eyebrows. “You’re happy? He’s your fiancé!”

“Not anymore” She said happily, taking off her ring. “I knew he wasn’t interested” She said matter-of-factly. “I’ve always saw the way he looks at you…” she smiled, tossing the ring back to Harry.

He caught it, mirroring the smile as he looked back up at her. “So… you’re not mad?”

She laughed airily, tossing her hair over her shoulder. “I’ll only me mad if you don’t propose to her already” She mused. And with that, she crossed her arms and leaned against the doorway.

                “Well? We’re waiting!”

I stifled a squeal as I turned to Harry, only to see him grinning so wide it probably hurt him. “Well, here goes nothing” He chuckled, getting on one knee.

And with that, he proposed to me, in his pajamas, with his ex-fiancé standing right beside me. Was it awkward? Only a little, but once he finished up his loving speech, I nodded profusely, nearly on the brink of tears as he slid the beautiful ring on my finger.

“This’ll be a great story to tell our children” He mumbled into my neck, pressing kisses to my collarbone.

“I guess his investment was a bust, yeah?” I giggled, clutching onto his shoulders. My friend was long gone as we continued our embrace by the front door, swaying slightly to the melody of our hearts.

“I guess you could say that” He chuckled, pulling away just far enough so he could pepper my forehead with kisses. “But without his little ‘princess’, I wouldn’t be here, now would I?” He mused, pressing a kiss in between pauses. I nodded, biting my lip as his touch sent shivers down my spine.

“So in a way, Daddy’s investment was worth it, because here with you, I feel like the richest man in the world.”

And with that, he gave me another mesmerizing kiss, making me feel like a million bucks as well. “I love you” he murmured, his breath still hot and heavy on mine.

                “I… I love you, too”
