The Fifth Force

Prologue

Everyone knows about the four forces, right? Gravity, electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force and the weak nuclear force. Meet Rhododendron Arum Dare, the fifth force. She has the power to alter things in big ways over short periods of time. If she focuses hard enough, she can change a dollar bill into a flower within half a minute. But it’s not that simple. She hears their thoughts. 

She can also change human beings into other things. She’s never tried it, but she can still hear what goes on inside their heads. 

But when Rhodie’s parents die in a horrible car accident, she and her seven sisters have to move to the country with close family friends. In such open space, it’s hard for Rhodie to control the force within her. Things are constantly blurring, shifting. Even with the help of her new best friend, Eli Greene, everything is harder for Rhodie.

And to make things worse, Eli has no idea about her powers. So when the TV remote turns into a stick, or the bag of chips turns into a pillow, he has no idea why. Or when she answers unspoken questions. But when he discovers her powers one day, he just makes it even harder for her by admitting that he likes her. As more than a friend.
