Packing was fairly simple, Tom thought. Sam didn't. She was more flustered than when Tom had argued with her in he deserts all that time ago.
"What if we get there and it's gone? Someone's bought it?" She panicked around the room while Tom chuckled.
"Don't laugh at me!" But Tom had other ideas. He caught her wrist and pulled her into a soft embrace.
He kissed the top of her head and muttered, "We're gonna be fine, don't you worry."
Sam relaxed a little in his arms, resting her head in the crook of his neck. They stayed like that for a while, then Sam went back to packing.

"We'll be fine, mother, honestly!" Sam protested as her mother continued to fuss over them all.
"Alright, alright. Try to come home in one piece," Melissa said at last.

The rest of the day was spent travelling south, and Sam was surprised at how good a rider her little brother actually was. He looked like he aged five years on horseback, with dust on his face and travelling clothes on. She missed the times when she wasn't the one with the most responsibility, when her father was still alive.
He'd been gone three years now, and his memory was only fading faster from Sam's mind.

The trio stayed the night in an Inn called the Wheatsheaf. The whole of the next day and the day after were spent travelling, until they finally made it to San Antonio again.
The sun was threatening to set in the sky as Sam led the boys to Madam Amata's shop. They tethered the horses to a post and hoped that, with a bit of luck, the shop wasn't closed.
It wasn't, thank goodness. Sam made her way inside, beckoning for the boys to follow.
"Samantha?" Said a familiar voice from the back of the shop.
"Yes, I'm back, do you still have the locket?"
"Who's this with you?" Madam Amata asked, ignoring Sam's urgent question.
"My brother Henry, and this is, er, my husband, Tom." Sam blushed.
"Your husband? Oh you must tell me more!"
"Only if you tell us if you still have the locket." Sam said through gritted teeth.
"I'm dreadfully sorry that you had to come all this way, Samantha. Your locket is in England."

Sorry for such a short chapter, but the cliffhanger was sort of necessary. (I like being mean ;) )

Anyway please vote and comment opinions! I'm not really sure where this story is going so any suggestions of ideas are welcome, thanks :)
