November 2
I would have slept for days next to Logan if given the opportunity. I didn’t exactly dream as much as I simply floated into visualized thoughts of my own. I couldn’t help but think it was rather peculiar how I could wander around in my own mind, but still be allowed to lay virtually completely still next to her. When I woke up, I contemplated this until I felt her snuggle up to me. For some reason, my heart started to beat about ten times louder and faster. It was so loud, I was worried it might wake her up. I wondered what she was dreaming about; or if she was even dreaming at all. Did she just walk around inside her own mind as I did; or did her dreams actually mean something?
Suddenly, her delicate little hand rested against my chest and her body was pressed to mine, her breathing still slow and deep. I shifted a bit, trying not to wake her up in order to wake up my foot which had fallen asleep, but it was no good. Logan took in a large breath and then blinked opening her eyes slowly, squinting. For some reason, I expected her to react largely with surprise when she realized we were snuggled up together, but she just smiled at me and moved closer. I honestly did not know how to react. What is a guy supposed to do when he finds himself snuggled up to a girl who just so happens to be his best friend?
Well, like an idiot, I put my arm around her waist and stay snuggled up to her. She swiveled her hips a bit, to get comfortable I assume, and then closed her eyes again. Her eyeliner from last night was smeared a bit down one of her eyes and the other eye seemed to be lacking any at all. Despite the uneven makeup, I couldn’t help but think about how beautiful she still looked. “Good morning, Calvin,” she whispered.
I was surprised by her voice. It sounded hoarser than usual. I mean, her voice is typically hoarse to begin with, but it seemed exceptionally raspy this morning. “Good morning,” I managed to choke out. It was one of those unexpected moments of vocalization when you find yourself having to speak but your voice cracks or it doesn’t come out exactly how you meant it to because you didn’t have time to prepare first. Regardless, she continued.
“Did you sleep well?” she asked.
I nodded. “Like a rock. You?”
“I had a nightmare, but other than that, I slept soundly,” she told me.
“What happened?” I asked.
“When?” she replied.
“In your nightmare,” I clarified.
“Oh.” She swallowed. “Well I guess it wasn’t so much a nightmare as it was reality.” Just then, the phone in her room rang, interrupting our conversation. Logan unwinded from me and crawled out of the bed to answer it. I layed in bed a bit longer, listening to her speak into the phone and intently watching her. When she hung up, she looked to me. “Dad,” she explained to me. I nodded.
Then, she was undressing her pajamas right in front of me. I tried not to look, but I guess I
couldn’t help myself. She pulled on a pair of jeans and a button up flannel shirt and then turned to me.
“Do you want to go to this cute little coffee shop not too far away?” she asked. “I don’t know if you’ve gone there yet, but it’s my favorite.”
“Sure.” I nod and smile, climbing out of the bed myself and putting on my clothes from last night. I mean, it’s not like I keep a spare change of clothes with me or anything. “Do we need to drive there?” I ask.
“No,” she shrugs. “It’s not that far.”
“Okay.” We walk about a block and end up in front of a house-looking cafe named It’s Morning Somewhere. I smirked at the name and we walked into the blue house-looking building. On the inside, it actually didn’t look anything like a house. There was a bar-like counter in the center of the main level and plenty of other tables and chairs around the main level. A few tvs were on the walls also. There was also an upstairs and a balcony up there to sit at, but we decided to just sit on the main level. The prices seemed pretty low, actually, which was nice. I insisted to pay for Logan and she finally gave up and let me.
