Lux
Third period began, and it was one surprise. I noticed that nobody bothered me when I got in class, nor did they insult me. I felt scared all of a sudden. Was there really going to be a zombie apocalypse? I realized that nobody was talking because they were too busy talking about the new student that was transferring here. The Mr. Mason, our language arts teacher, told us it was a guy. The boys in class discussed if he had any talents while the girls discussed of he was hot or not. I rolled my eyes and sat at the corner of the last row in the classroom. Bless Jesus for my peace.
I blew a sigh and checked the clock. In few minutes, the petty bitches will come in. When the bell rang, Selina Clare, the Queen of Bitches, walked in dramatically with her followers right behind her. She had on a super tight black spaghetti strapped dress, with matching heels, and smoky makeup. She walked in like she owned this place. She looked around, disappointed. "Where's the new kid?"
Nobody bothered to answer and continued to ignore her. Everyone looked at her warily. She groaned. "I can't believe I dressed up for no freaking reason! That's it! I'm going to change!" She announced. Just before she headed out, she bumped into a guy in a black jacket, blue jeans, and black high tops (which I envy so much). Mine were all worn out, so I had to wear my brown ones. She backed up to take a good look at his face. If I was normal, I'd say he's handsome. I noticed that she smeared her pink lipstick on his jacket. I snorted to see her priceless expression. I kept my muffle low to see the new drama that started.
The room was filled with silence. Beside the new dude was Mr. Mason, who was pretty annoyed with her getup. "Where do you think your going dressed like that, Ms. Clare? It's against school policy."
She was too busy checking out his face to answer. It took five thousand pokes from her colleagues to get her to snap put of it. "Oh, I-I-I was going to an important event after this." She stuttered.
He didn't look convinced, but he just let it go. "Okay, go take your seats so we can introduce our new student."
I watched as she sat at the seat with an empty one beside her. One of her colleagues tried to sit in the seat, but she was instantly pushed her off by her Highness. Ouch, that was harsh and humiliating. She scrambled from the floor and sat elsewhere. I watched as two went to the front of the room.
"Okay, before we start class, I'd like of you all to welcome Gavin Boreal. He just moved from Washington. Let's hope you all get along."
"Okay." The class said in unison.
"Now, I'll need a volunteer to show him around after fourth period." He said. All the girl's hands shot up in the air. I just sat there and hid behind the waving hands. Mr. Mason turned to look at Gavin. "Can I see your schedule?"
He nodded and gave it to him. The teacher examined it and jumped in surprise. He scanned around the room. "Where's Lloyd?"
Everybody's hands dropped and turned to face the quiet cutie who sat at the corner. I rose my head in relief. Lloyd rose a hand lazily.
"Oh, there you are. Do you mind showing Gavin around? You have all periods with him after all. Plus, you're our class representative." Mr. Mason chuckled. "It might make our class look dignified. I'll even add five extra credit points."
He just shook his head and laid his head back down. He wasn't much of a talker. I guess that's just why I like him. Mr. Mason stared at him before skipping his eyes towards me. "Lux? If you do I'll add ten extra credit points."
I shrugged and leaned back on my chair. "Make that twenty and I'll accept." Mr. Mason nodded and wrote that in his little booklet.
Gavin walked to the closest available seat, which was beside Selena. Honestly, I'd warn him if he was any smarter.
When the bell rang, I put away my books and stood up. Gavin immediately followed me when I left class. "Wait up, Lux." He calls me casually. I rose a brow but slowed my pace. Does Washington not know of my reputation?
"Oh right. I totally forgot," I said sarcastically. "My bad." He didn't notice my sarcasm and just told me it was fine. Weirdo. I saw Avalon, who was waiting near the door frame of the hall.
She moment she saw me, she jumped up and jogged over to me. "Lux! I was waiting for you!" She attention drew to Gavin. "Gavin?"
He smiled at her. "Hey Ava."
"Know each other?" I questioned."He's a cousin on my stepmom's side." She explained. She didn't seem happy to see him. Gavin looked at her with an opposite effect.
I walked away as they had a staring contest. Avalon noticed I was ditching her a second later and ran after me. So did Gavin. Seriously, I feel like a master abandoning two lost puppies. As we went by certain areas, I pointed out the rooms and explained why they're there. "That's the art building for...uh art. And other stuff. That's the math building, and that's the library." We stopped by at the cafeteria, where the lunch ladies gave us a tray of tuna sandwiches and macaroni and cheese. I took the mac 'n cheese and sat down at one of the empty tables. Avalon grabbed the tuna and ran to my side. Few girls spotted Gavin and pestered him on sitting with them instead of us, but he sat with us either way.
"You sure you want to sit with us?" I asked, shoving a spoonful in my mouth.
He nodded. "Yeah. What's so bad about you guys?"Right when he asked the question, Selina came by, setting her tray beside him. Where she came from is out of my knowledge but I suspected she's been following us. "What's so bad about her," she said, pointing at me, "is her father." Her colleagues surrounded us, admiring Mr Gorgeous.
"Do you know a man in the name of Professor Fredric Edson?" she asked.
He nodded with a smirk. "You mean that bastard who messed up the Robot Soldiers?"I clenched my fist into a tight ball under the table, but I kept on a poker face as they spoke. Selina snorted. "Yep, that bastard. Apparently his daughter goes to this school."
Gavin looked surprised, but turned dark. "Really? Where is she? I want to let her have a piece of my mind."
Avalon looked at me nervously. I just ate as if nothing was going on, but inside, I felt a wave of hatred washing over me. "Maybe we should stop talking and start eating." Avalon said, trying to change the subject. I really appreciated her for trying, but Selina didn't look like she was going to stop.
"But I was only beginning." Selina said in an innocent voice. Avalon glared at her, but it had no effect.
Gavin noticed the tension and said, "Let's talk later. I'm hungry." He stuffed his face with pizza. We all ate, but Selina just sat there constantly asking, "Are you done yet?"
When I was about done with my milk and almost everything on my tray, Selina took this as an opportunity to continue.
"I know who she is, and she's nearby." She said slyly. I pretended to continue eating, by chewing on a cucumber.
"Really?" Gavin looked around. "Where?"
"You know, I think-" Avalon didn't get a chance to finish because Selina butted in. "She sitting in front of you."
Gavin stared at me with a raised brow. "Yeah right, and I'm Albert Einstein."
Selena smiled mischievously like a Cheshire CatI sighed and grabbed my things. I picked up my tray and left. Avalon quickly grabbed her things and followed. I saw that Gavin was about to do the same, but Selina pulled him back down. It was nice to think he was on my side.
