"Charlie?!" I shouted up the stairs. My long black hair flew in my face and I frowned. "Charlie hurry up!" I yelled turning away and walking to the front door.

The house was big and old. The hallway was big enough to be another dining room, and the bedrooms were king size. I had never liked the house, always thought it too big and epmty. But I had no choice to live here, it's were my family lived and I wasn't old enough to move out yet. And anyway I was only there at weekends, during the week I was at boarding school. Handway Cross, a big tall building down about a thousands country lanes in the middle of nowhere.

"Ergh, Angel what?!" My half asleep twin sister appeared at the top of the massive staircase, looking like a ghost.

"I'm going now." I breathed in and spoke the words as if they were deadly poison. "I'll be back on Friday at about 4ish. You know where the food is, and make sure Lila and Marty go to bed at 7pm. Chrisy is going to take them to nursery and drop them of, so don't worry about that. She'll pick them up before you go to school and drop them of afterwards. OK." I'd gone through this a thousand times before but it still worried me. The thought of my twin sister Charlie, older than me by 6 and a half minutes, alone in this big empty house with our younger cousins Lila and Marty.

Where are our parents, you ask? Well. Like I said the house is massive, a big old Victorian thing. It's not just ours though. Basically our Aunt Linda, Lila and Marty's mum, owns it.  But me, Charlie and mum moved in with her a while ago when mum and dad divorced.

Mum was breaking down. She couldn't cope with it all and got the sack from work. She's been so depressed lately for no reason at all and Linda said it would be good for her to get away for the week. So Linda's taken her on a week trip to London. Yes London. Our Victorian Manor House was in the Countryside of Somerset near Wells. London was miles away, busy, fumed and so non countryside. I didn't want to even think of it. Why would anyone who was used to living here, the quiet peaceful Somerset Countryside want to visit London? But he main thing I didn't get was that they trusted Charlie on her own with the house and the kids? A gobby, messy 14 year old girl. I guess they didn't think I wouldn't  be there.

I was the smartest out of the both of us. I was neat, precise and clever whilst Charlie was messy, moody and slapdash. I was petite like a mouse and Charlie was clumsy like an elephant.

"Alright, alright. I think I know by now." She yelled in her Bristol acent. "It'll be fine, don't stress!"

"OK, OK." I said back glancing at the door. "I'll ring you Wednesday from the school and if we go by a payphone I'll give you a call."

"I'm not 4 years old Angel." She moaned walking slowly away from the stairs.

"No, but Lila and Marty are!" I yelled opening the front door.

I quickly glanced in the tall mirror that hung beside the great oak door. My long black hair fell to my hips and my posh school uniform looked perfect on me. It kind of suited my personality. Neat and smart, posh and nerdy. Not at all like our school. I know I'm probably making Handways Cross sound posh but oh no. Think more like St Trinians. Well no, don't think St Trinians becuase Handways Cross was nothing like St Trinians.

Hanways Cross was meant to be a school for privileged and well educated children, but really it was for disturbed kids with behaviour problems. Me? No. I don't really have behaviour problems as such, but I am smart and sometimes a tiny bit cocky to teachers, I guess.

I walked along the path and spotted my cab at the top of the long road.

I waved and it drove down the drive way a bit. I sighed and slung my school bag over my shoulder.

The graveled ground crunched under my feet and I admired the surroundings. Hedge's cut into shapes and mazes made of of hedge, yeah that's how rich Aunt Linda really was. Not posh but rich.

The cab was blue today usually it was dark green with a silver smudge from where the driver had once 'acidentally' nudged a silver car.

The cab driver was asian and he sat there staring at a newspaper.

I walked up slowly and opened the back door. To my suprise there was someone sitting where I usually sit.

"Oh sorry." I blushed turning around and walking to the other side of the cab.

"It's OK." A small boy perhaps a bit younger than me blushed. I hadn't seen him before, he was most likely new and most of lived near me.

I lived miles away from the school.

It took us 4 hours to get there. I looked out the window. The sunwas just setting, it was about 3am.
