Chapter One~Pathway to Peril.
"Kiera!" I hollered above the clamor of excited teenagers.
I stood up as high as I could... But I'm kinda short compared to these people, so it didn't actually help.
"Hazel!" Jason, Kiera's boyfriend, shouted at me from the pavilion near the parking lot, where people were taking their luggage and loading it on the bus.
I put a protective arm around my bag-well, purse, but it only has all my art supplies in it, plus my phone and iPod-and scurried to him. Kiera was, of course, snuggled right against him as they sat on one of the tables.
I hoped up by Kiera.
"So, the Smokey Mountians, huh?" I said, unwrapping a Heath toffee bar. Not a very good breakfast, but I'd woke up late this morning and didn't have time to fix anything, so I grabbed what I could and hurried out.
Kiera finally broke her gaze with Jason, her black curls bouncing as she turned to face me.
"Yep, I wish they'd hurry up and leave," She grumbled, motioning to our chaperones.
Kiera Everdance is a brown eyed with duct tape sealed glasses, black haired girl, is sixteen, about an inch taller than me(so about 5"7')slim, and pretty sassy, but good natured.
Jason Berzirk has black spiky hair, dark blackish eyes, about 6"7, turned nineteen a few months ago, is cute-ish, also weird sense of humor. And is my unofficial adopted brother. He and my actual brother are best, inseparatble best friends, I knew him since I was four.
Kiera I've known even longer. We were together since preschool, so she's like the sister I never had.
What are we doing here? It's a church trip they have every year that either goes to the Smokies or the beach(or like last year, when we went to Birmingham, Alabama, which was a total flop on my part...)
It was usually a fun trip, or so I've heard from Kiera. I went last year to Birmingham, but it kinda sucked. Could be the fact that I was so sick on-the-verge-of-passing-out from food poisoning or something that I could hardly walk from the room to the bus.
But, this time I would be strong and stay away from the wicked weiners that did me in and enjoy myself. Or that's what I was expecting, anyway.
"Come on, Hazel," Jason said, poking me in the ribs, pulling me from my thoughts,"Lets go."
I complied and jumped off the table, blowing my choppy long brown hair from my reddish brown eyes.
I tried to keep up with him, but with every step of his equaled about three for me, since 1 I wasn't Bigfoot and 2 I'm no track star. Of course he is, though.
Kiera waved at us from inside one of the massive twinkies as we pushed through the crowd.
Finally we made it inside, I flopped down in one of the hard leather seats ahead of Kiera and Jason, and as soon as my back turned I knew they were making out.
These two just can't be embarrassed.
Jason's phone started ringing some wailing song, so he cut the kiss short and shouted at the person on the other end.
"Listen, I don't care if-yeah, I told you it wouldn't... WHAT?! Why did you tell me *that* man? Just get to the point already..."
It went on like that for about twenty minutes.
I busied myself at winning a game of Angry Birds, and after twelve times I did. I suck at a lot of games and sports, so I usually stuck to fencing or archery.
