silence

the screen fades in and a line stretches from small town, louisiana to new orleans, a map superimposed beneath it

a car, driving

a road with a vanishing point

a low hum

Where can you run?

the hum gets louder

the map again, clearer, zoomed in over louisiana with an crossed out circle over the small town

lines come from the circle, extending from it, lengthening the way shadows do except they move like something else much more frightening that can grip and pull and drag

the auditory noise is distracting now, nearly screeching

the shadows spread outward and we follow their path, zooming out on the map

until we can see the lines reach alabama

Is anywhere safe?

When has running ever helped?

music now, overlapping, distorted, forwards and backwards, a chorus of popular music all saying to run

tim and jay outside of a motel, running from alex

tim stands defiant by his car as jay turns away to his own

tim and jay by the rest stop, speaking about how tired they are of driving

they're driving back to the college town, miles and miles to go

jay and tim in the car, again and again always going somewhere but getting nowhere

jay driving to see alex

tim driving to alex's school

the noise is a scream now, high-pitched and angry, blowing out the speakers

a car, turning off the highway to downtown new orleans

zoom in
tim's car

the backs of tim and allie's heads are visible

Nothing changes.

You can't outrun it.

the operator stands tall, looming

You can't outrun death.

it tilts its head

it reaches for jay
