Secrets

-Chapter 1-

Alice's POV:

It was around eleven that night when I began feeling drowsy and was tucked into the crib safely with a soft goodnight kiss on my forehead. Harry was still awake- I knew it. Thinking about mum, dad and Harry I fell into a deep sleep and my dreams were filled with colorful dolls, unicorns and dresses.

I awoke to the scream of my father- and another snake-like voice. Terrified, I sat up in my crib. I saw my mother running into our room and placing Harry beside me. She pressed a kiss on both our foreheads and told us how much loved we were. She then began placing various pieces of furniture by the door. We did not know what was going to happen, but in our fear, Harry and I held hands tightly- fearing that if even one of us let go, we would lose each other forever. The door suddenly opened with a huge bang and a person- or should I say monster- entered and on seeing our mother in front of us, he ordered her to move away. Even after continuous ordering when Mum did not move away, he muttered something on the lines of "Avada Kedavra!" and after a quick blinding flash of green light and a haunting scream from Mum, she feel down on the ground and a shrill cry escaped from my lips. 

He pointed his wand at me and immediately my crying stopped. I wanted to scream- but no sounds seemed to be coming out of my mouth. When he came closer to us, I could finally see his face clearly. White pastel skin and a bald head and instead of his nose, he had slits for breathing- one look at him and I knew that he was the bad guy- the villain who killed my Mum and Dad. His face then turned into a sneer and he screamed "Avada Kedavra" again- and the same green light appeared. Only this time- instead of killing us, the curse somehow rebounded and his soul left his body. But I felt a searing hot pain on the right side of my forehead- I could feel Harry's pain too. We did not know what was happening; all we knew that was we had each other; and that was enough- for now.

After some time a man donned in full black clothes comes into our room and unconsciously Harry moves closer to me. With the fear of having lost our parents hanging above our heads we burst out crying on seeing this unknown man- but we were not his object of interest- our mum was. He took her in his arms and burst out crying- it was an unusual sight. It was then that an old man wearing purple robes appeared out of thin air in front of us.

Albus Dumbledore's POV:

I knew that something bad had happened the minute Severus apparated from his chambers in the middle of the night. Something to do with the Potters- I presumed. I quickly reached Godric's Hollow only to find their house completely destroyed and Severus holding a dead Lily in his arms. I turned to find two pairs of innocent eyes staring at me with fascination and a hint of fear- it was then I noticed their scars. A lightning bolt on the right side of their foreheads. I knew then that the dark lord had not been able to kill these two children. I called Severus to me and told him,

 "We should know that when the dark lord returns- god forbid that he never does- his first wish will be to kill the children. It should be made sure that they are not kept together. I say that the girl should be kept with Andromeda- and the boy with his aunt and uncle. What say you Severus?"

"Certainly professor. Andromeda would take good care of the girl- no one will even suspect that the girl stays with Andromeda."

At that very moment their godfather Sirius apparates there. On seeing the state of the house, he starts wailing- but Severus shuts him up with a silencing charm.

"Stop waking everybody up in the neighborhood you bloody dog"

'SILENCE!" I said, "This is no time to quarrel. Hagrid would be reaching here any moment now. Listen carefully Sirius, we are planning to separate the boy and the girl for their protection. The girl will be kept with Andromeda and the boy with his aunt and uncle, do you object it? You are their godfather after all."

Sirius seems to think over that idea, and says, "No I do not object, but will it be fine not reveal to them that they have family left?"

"Yes, but in course of time, they will be told about each other- but only when they are ready- and we will know when they are ready. Sirius stay here and wait for Hagrid to come. Severus, you and I shall go."

"Wait professor," says Severus, "I feel that Sirius might let his emotions overrule his conscience and reveal the truth to the boy and girl."

"I would not do that you—"

"Then make the unbreakable vow."

There is stunned silence, but surprisingly Sirius accepts and the bond is sealed.

With a swish of wind, Severus and I apparate out of there with the girl, just in time to see Hagrid arrive.

We reached Andromeda's house and she looked at us in surprise before gasping and looking at the child in my arms.

"Is that Alice?"

"Yes, and we need you look after her. Could you do it? Raise her as your own?"

"Why yes professor, it does become lonely around here without Ted and Nymphadora."

"Severus- tell her everything and dear, show me where to keep this child safely."

I am lead upstairs by Andromeda's house elf- Grus his name is, I think, and keep Alice on the bed where she immediately dozes off.

I then take leave of Andromeda- who looks a bit shaken up- and reach Privet Drive- where Hagrid is supposed to reach with Harry anytime now. We put Harry on the doorstep of the Dursleys with a letter explaining everything-and go back to Hogwarts.

Alice's POV:

It had been 10 years since the incident and I still remember everything like yesterday. Just yesterday professor Dumbledore and professor Snape had told me everything about my past- and when it all came back to me, Merlin, did it hurt my scar. They told me how I would take my OWL's and how I'd have to study after I turn eleven- based in the ministry's subscribed portion for first years.

"Why can't I come to the school only professor? And why do I feel like there is someone else in my head all the time? It's like I can feel what that other person is feeling-most of the time."

I heard him sigh and he said to professor Snape, "I think it's time we told her- lets pray that she takes it well."

They both looked at me-"Take what well?"

They then told me all about Harry Potter and how both our lives are in danger- his more than mine. That's when I take it upon my ten-and-a-half-year old puny self that no matter what happens, I would keep Harry Potter save.

Surprised on seeing my enthusiastic proclamation, they decide that it would be best if I had two-way mirror in my bedroom- and could always contact both Snape and professor if anything happened to Harry. With that they took leave of me.

I went inside to see a worried Andromeda waiting for me to come- I quickly flung myself into her arms and thanked her for always taking care of me like I was her own daughter.

I then went up to my room and thinking about how Harry looked like, how was he like, was he enjoying his life? With all these thoughts running through my head, I fell asleep, with one promise ringing in my head- I will do whatever it take to keep Harry Potter safe.

After all, what is an amazing twin sister for?
