Matt...

I closed my eyes and inhaled sharply, my heart was racing, and my mind was everywhere. Memories flooding in and out, most of them bad. I had known Matt two years and not once have I felt a single ounce of affection for him, he was an abusive alcoholic who had cheated on me multiple times. Somehow my parents viewed him as a knight in shining armor and forced me into marriage, just because I didn't meet there standards of "normality". I began to feel slightly dizzy. I opened my eyes and wiped my sweaty palms on my pants. I was shaking slightly and broke out into a cold sweat. Josie realized Matt had been the figure on the porch and reached out and grabbed my hand, she was enraged. Let me tell you something, Josie is like a pressure cooker when you make her mad. Make her mad enough she will explode.

"GET THE FUCK OFF OF MY PORCH!" Josie commanded angrily, her jaw was clenched tightly, shit was about to hit the fan.

"I just want to talk to Ella," Matt told her, his teeth gritted, a vein popping out on his forehead. Josie took a step towards him dropping my hand.

"Oh really? What makes you think you have the right to speak to her, you abusive cunt." Josie snarled her eyes glowed like embers in the darkness, filled with fury and rage.

Matt growled, "I have more of a right than you do."

If at all possible this only angered Josie even more, the whole ordeal seemed like a scene from a movie. Josie's hair swirled in the wind behind us, her eyes glowing in the darkness, the street lights illuminating the night around us. Matt had his hands balled up into fists, his jaw clenched, his facing growing red in anger. He was about as red as elmo at this point. That was the thing with Matt he had quite the temper.

I stepped towards Matt I was enraged at his last comment. Why did he think he had any right to talk to me.

"Josie has more of a right than you do and thats for sure. You know who was there when you beat me black and blue? Josie was. You know me who dragged me out of bed when I was hurt because you did something like that? Josie did. Josie has been there for me almost my whole life, so guess what Matt? She has the right, not you," I seethed. I heard Josie mutter burn. But I was too distracted I pulled off my wedding ring and threw it to him saying, "Give it to someone who gives a fuck."
I grabbed Josie's arm and pulled it to her front door, she unlocked it and we stepped inside leaving Matt standing outside on the front porch.

Josie pulled me into a tight hug, soothing me momentarily.

"How about we have a girls night, like we did in high school?" Josie suggested with a slight smile. I nodded weakly.

"Now go upstairs and shower, feel free to borrow anything, now shoo," she waved me up the stairs. I walked upstairs and to the guest bedroom with the attached bathroom to take a shower. After my shower I trotted downstairs in flannel pajama pants and a grey t shirt.

Josie was sitting on the couch, a bowl of popcorn in hand flipping through a magazine. When she noticed I had walked into the room she put the magazine down.

"Wanna watch a movie?" Josie asked.

"Sure, but can we watch the heat? It's my favorite movie," I requested.

"Of course, it's hilarious," Josie said excitedly.

My eyes fluttered open, my eyes adjusting to the light. I was sprawled out on the couch, I wonder if I made it through the movie last night. I groaned groggily while pulling my self off the couch to follow the aroma of pancakes coming from the kitchen. Josie had her back to me, she was standing at the stove flipping pancakes.

I walked to the coffee pot grabbing a mug from the shelf above it. I poured myself a mug of black coffee. Josie looked back at me and chuckled. Then I had a moment of realization.

"YOU MOTHERFUCKER!" I shouted,  I set my cup of coffee down and ran towards the bathroom. I flung open the door and stared in the mirror in disbelief. In bold letters across my forehead were the words WHORE. Oh no she didn't. Suddenly Josie appeared in the door.

"Karma is a bitch El, and so am I," she said with a lopsided grin, while polishing her nails. I shot her a glare, while turning on the water and grabbing a washcloth so I could rid my face of graffiti.

It took several minutes and a lot of soap, to get the permanent marker off my face. Josie was gonna pay. Meanwhile I had to journey back to my house to get some of my belongings. Especially my own clothes, Josie was great and all but her wardrobe choices were very different than mine. And I was really missing my MacBook Pro.

I did some slight guesstimating and assumed Matt   would be back home at about 4:30 or 5:00. I was now sitting outside of the house at 3:30 I had an hour at the least. I unbuckled my seatbelt and hopped out of my Jeep hurrying up the front lawn. I grabbed the spare key from under the flowerpot on the front porch and unlocked the door. As soon as I opened the door the strong scent of Vodka hit me, I was also hit with the familiar scent of cigarette smoke. I went through a stoner phase in my high school years, lets just say it was not pretty. At all. The floor was littered with bottles and cigarette packs. Wrappers covered the coffee tables along with open  condom packets. Gross. I wasn't kidding when I said Matt was a cheater, whenever I was away from home there was a new woman, a new one night stand for Matt. Yet it never hurt me, I was never shocked by it. I simply did not love Matt.
I ran through what used to look like a living room and up the stairs. The bedroom was ever worse if possible, the shades were drawn shut preventing any natural light to enter the room, the lamp was thrown against the ground with beer bottles and dirty sheets surrounding it. The smoke scent had only grown stronger and was making me gag. The room smelled like armpit, alcohol, and pot. I grabbed my small travel bag from the closet throwing whatever I may need in it. Fresh underwear, deodorant, work clothes, pajamas, a toothbrush, and I made sure to grab my MacBook before booking it out of the house and to my car.
