The Vantas family and the makaras stayed together for the next four years. Everyone was happy with the living situation. Haakon and Dessie found jobs and all of them moved to a bigger house in the city. Gamzee, Karkat, and nepeta stayed really close. They were always together doing something. Meulin and Kurloz were also together always, they never told anyone what they were doing. It was a peaceful next four years. Everyone was finally happy.

On Karkat's birthday he only wanted one thing. "I want to visit America." He said, crossing his arms.

"I don't think it's safe! You're still only a child! What if something happens?" Dessie was worried about him leaving again.

"Id only be there for a few weeks...please! It's the only thing I want! Please!!" Karkat begged his mother.

"Let me ask Haakon." Dessie sighed, wanting to give in. She left the room and found Haakon. They had a short discussion, before coming back to Karkat.

"Karkat," Haakon started. "I really don't want you going..." He said sadly.

"Why not?! I'm not a kid! I'm sixteen! Please please!! C'mon! I should be able to do this! I was originally going to leave when I was around eight! But that didn't happen." Karkat huffed. "I'd be safe! I know where I'm going!"

"Do you even speak English?" Dessie asked, still wanting to give in.

"...yeah...a bit. Haakon and Gamzee have taught me more! I learned from Rufioh too!" Karkat kept his stand.

"Ah, that's it." Haakon smirked.

"What?" Karkat glared at him.

"You want to see Rufioh, would he even remember you?" Haakon tried to get Karkat to back off.

"Of course he would!! He wouldn't forget me! I haven't forgotten him!" Karkat kept glaring. He was not going to back down.

Dessie looked over at Haakon, who sighed. "One thing." He said and Karkat got excited. "Gamzee comes too."

"Deal!!" Karkat hugged them both. "Thank you!" He quickly ran off, going to tell Gamzee.

"You wanted him to be happy too..." Dessie smiled slightly.

"He deserves it..." Haakon sighed, walking back to his office. Dessie smiled as he did. She knew what he was thinking.

A few days later Gamzee and Karkat were on their way to America. Karkat had packed Rufioh's had and comic. The two of them were actually pretty excited, Karkat more than Gamzee though. He was practically bouncing in his seat. "You okay, bro?" Gamzee asked, smiling at Karkat.

"Yeah!! I'm just excited to see Rufioh!! I really hope he's happy to see me too!" Karkat kept remembering everything Rufioh told him about America and his family and how he also liked a guy. He wanted to know if Rufioh had gotten anywhere with that, after all he was now twenty-five.

"Well were on our way, bro!!" Gamzee smiled lazily. He was happy that Karkat was happy.

The flight was a long seven hours. Karkat and Gamzee arrived at around three in the afternoon. They stopped at the hotel they were staying at and went into the big city. Karkat was practically about to burst. He knew which street Rufioh's house was on, so he took Gamzee there first. They walked around, looking for about an hour. Karkat finally spotted him. "RUFIOH!!!" He shouted, running at him.

"Who-?" Rufioh turned around to see Karkat. "Karkat!!" He let Karkat ram himself into him. "What are you doing here?! You're so big now, damn kid!"

"You are basically zhe same! I wanted to come and visit!! I brought Gamzee as well." Karkat stopped hugging Rufioh and pulled Gamzee over.

"Hey, Gamzee! Oh!" Rufioh looked over at the girl that was with him. "This is damara. She doesn't speak English, but she understands it just fine!"

"Your girlfriend, right?" Karkat asked, remembering Rufioh had a girlfriend.

"Yep! The one and only." Rufioh winked at Karkat, letting him know what was still going on. "How long are you in New York anyway?"

"...eh, a few weeks. We are staying in hotel near by!" Karkat pointed away.

"Why don't I show you around while you're here? I'll show you all the things I talked about back in the war. Also, there are more captain America comics out." Rufioh smiled at Karkat, who was smiling back. Damara said something to Rufioh, who shook his head. "He was eight when I met him. I basically took care of him till the war ended. He was a good kid... Still is." He smiled.
