A sunny morning, Vincent woke up with the sun shining in his face. He took a deep breath and then sat up in bed. Looking around his bedroom, he thought about how messy his room was. The closet was wide open, clothes strewn about on the floor. In one corner, his telescope facing upwards to the sky was propped on a tripod. His desk, a complete mess of books and drawings of the night sky and the stars. A framed photo was leaning against the wall. He picked up the photo frame and gazed at the picture with a sad expression. The picture shows a girl standing beside Vincent, big smiles etched on their faces.
When night came, the stars revealed themselves, shining ever so brightly. Vincent took his motorbike and his telescope and took off to a nearby spot. It was his usual routine every week. He stopped at the end of the stone path and got off. There was no one around, only the stars, the sea and himself. The sound of the waves splashing against the rock somehow soothed him, at least there was sound rather than silence. He set up his telescope and stood there gazing at the stars. The stars were shining brighter, brighter than other days.
"I wish you were here to see this...Angela..."
He looked up from the telescope, tears filled his eyes. A shining beauty just like Angela. It has been a week since she passed away and Vincent's chest still seems so tight when he thought of her.
"I am here...always with you, in your heart..."
Angela smiled lovingly at Vincent, tears filled her eyes as well. She then looked around her, paths leading in every single direction were visible to her. Paths which will eventually lead her somewhere further away from him. She glanced one more time at him and then looked up as the Train of Afterlife stopped to pick her up.
"I will always be with you in your heart...and you in mine..."
Years passed when Vincent picked up the same photo frame as memories flooded back to him. The time he spent with his first love. He had always been lonely, no one to share his interests in stars with. Boys his age preferred soccer and adventure. When Angela moved in to the city and transferred to his school, he had fallen in love. He would find himself thinking about her day and night. But he thought...no way a girl would fall for someone like me.
One night, when he was out looking for a spot to look at the stars, he bumped into Angela. It was her who told him the best spot to stargaze. It was also her who made him feel more comfortable. This continued on for weeks, the two of them just gazing up at the stars, sharing stories and jokes. On some occasions, Vincent would notice that Angela looked breathless or sickly. He then knew something was wrong when she started coughing even badly and soon learned that she didn't have much longer to live. Upon hearing this, Vincent became insistent to make sure Angela has all the fun she can get, meanwhile hoping a miracle would happen and that she would survive the illness. But his prayers were not answered and she passed away.
Gripping the frame tighter, he knew he did his best to ensure that Angela was happy till the end. It's over 10 years now...I need to let go...
A cry tore his thoughts apart and he quickly rushed over to the crib and carried the baby in his arms. The crying immediately stopped and the baby's beautiful blue eyes gazed into Vincent's own blue eyes.
"You're beautiful, my dear Angela. Just like her..."
