Note: I wrote this as a fictional thing, whilst stuck for ideas on a project. The characters and parts of a book mentioned in this aren't actually mine! I created them to make a piece on writer's block.
Writer's block.
It's strange. A barricade, blocking you from that door to your emporium of imagination. Earlier, everything was flowing perfectly. Inspector Eden was flying through an investigation, and a new character who suddenly appeared in my head altered the course of the story. Everything was going brilliantly.
And then, stop.
Like someone had slammed on the brakes of a speeding car. Or the pause button had been hit on a fast paced song. Everything just vanished, the lightbulb of inspiration burning out, and I was left there confused.
Everything was working so well in my new novel. Inspector Eden's meeting with this new character had aroused suspicion and made a great plot twist...
... But how to carry on?
I sat back in my chair and stared at my desk. A stack of detective novels, for inspiration, sat on on the left. Agatha Christie, and more modern names. Spines creased; a sign that I'd loved the books very much. My notebooks and research on scrap paper were strewn across the right hand side of the surface, covering everything and barely leaving room for that rapidly cooling mug of tea. My beloved, Imperial typewriter sat proudly in the middle, eager for me to press another key. I yearned for that: some inspiration of some sort, to carry on my novel, mainly so I could hear that satisfying Clink of a vintage typewriter key. My lamp illuminated the page, which only read CHAPTER SEVENTEEN. The daunting blankness of the rest of the paper stared at me mockingly. How I wished I could find a way to flood it with words.
But I just couldn't.
The flow of imagination had halted at the worst possible moment. I glanced at the clock hanging on the wall above me, bathing in the lamp's glow and casting a long abstract shadow above. Eight minutes past midnight. I'd been writing for six hours, straight.
Maybe sleep would bring some more inspiration
