Chapter 1

I reached for my tissues, pulling even more out of the little pink box. I blew my nose for what seemed the 100th time in those few minutes. I aimed for my small trash can and threw as hard as my sick self would allow. I rolled my eyes when the tissues took a sharp left and went the opposite direction. I sighed, which resorted in a viscous coughing fit. I've been sick for about a week now and I don't feel any change towards getting better. I stood up to grab the missed tissues but had a terrible head rush which had me sitting back down. I groaned. Laying on my back, I accidentally pushed my laptop. I had successfully closed the lid. I panicked and flipped myself onto my stomach -my hair flew around my face rather unattractively- and I frantically opened it back up. I smiled as I saw that my essay for advanced English Lit wasn't deleted. See, I'm not the most technologically advanced so I panic over a lot when it comes to electronics. Especially my laptop because I only got it a week ago and I'm still learning the ropes.

'Tara!" My roommate, also my best friend, burst into my room. I looked over at her, a glare already set on my face. My smile had disappeared. Her scream made my already aching ears throb in pain.

"What?" I snapped. She unsurprisingly took this as a invitation to continue.

"Well damn nigga." She laughed. My expression didn't change. She always talks like this.

"What?" I repeated. My voice sounded worse than the first time I spoke.

"I wanted you to know..." She paused. I rolled my eyes. So dramatic.

"..That you're gay! Okay bye!" She then turned and walked out of my room. I could hear her humming the tune to her favorite song annoyingly loud. Boy, for 20 year old she sure doesn't act like one. I stood and walked into my bathroom, flipping the light on. I turned the shower on and walked away to grab clothes.

'WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY!?'  My phone blared the crazy song. I sprang for my phone swiping the screen to answer the call. It was my oldest brother.

"Hey, Jason, sorta a bad time bro. I was about to jump in the show-"

"Oh so my only sister doesn't even want to talk to her favorite brother. I'm hurt." I laughed. Thankfully this time it didn't result in a coughing fit.

    "Shut up!"

"I just called to let you know that I'm coming home soon. The ship is letting us off for the holidays early." To say I was surprised didn't even cut it. The Navy ships weren't supposed to let them off for another four weeks.

"So you'll be home when?" I moved my phone between my shoulder and my head -so I could have two hands- as I grabbed underwear, along with my favorite black American Eagle sweatpants from my dresser.

"Um next Monday I believe. Well, Taropolis, I have to go. My break time is up. Bye!"

I smiled at the family known nickname. I said my goodbye and set my phone back on my dresser. I reached for my iPod 5 and tossed a random blue hoodie over my shoulder as I walked back into the bathroom. I plugged my iPod into the bathroom speakers and hit shuffle.  My favorite band, R5, started blaring through the speakers immediately. 'C'mon get loud, loud, let it out! Shout it from the rooftops! C'mon get loud, loud, I need you now!'  I sang along as I set my clothes down and got undressed for my shower.

Minutes later I stepped out of the shower all clean and whatnot. I dried off and got dressed. I opened my mirror/cupboard for my brush and ran it through my longish brown hair. The brush caught in a few natural curls of mine that I happen to have. My hair is sort of straight with a bit of a wavy poof. I opened my cupboard  back up, setting my brush back down and reached for the antibiotics the dorm doctor prescribed. I took the pills with some water from the sink. Minutes later I was feeling better but not by much. My throat and ears still hurt. My nose had stopped running and my headache was fading. I reached for the throat stuff and sprayed it on the back of my throat causing it to go numb. Thankfully stopping the pain I was feeling. I looked through the cupboard for anything to help my ears but came up with nothing. I took one look at my face in the mirror. My greenish brown eyes stared back at me. Assessing my every move. I looked away, and focused on the task at hand. I groaned. Looks like I will have to suck it up and keep them covered today, I thought as I bent down to grab my dirty clothes, then reached and snagged my iPod; Switching the speakers and light switch off as I left the bathroom. Walking to my dresser I sat my iPod on its charger and tossed my dirty clothes in the dirty clothes basket.
