Elder Mary continues, "True mates by design is instinctively made to mate and reproduce. According to legend if they fight against their natures their wolves may abandon them."

I take a deep breath. "What is this legend?" I ask.

"The legend is of Alpha Winter and his true mate Luna Rose. Alpha Winter was the great great grandson of the first Alpha. Pack Waterfall can trace their lineage to him. There was no council at this time and the wars between the packs were wild and cruel.

Alpha Winter had just lost his father to an ambush. His father called a peace meeting with a neighboring pack and was betrayed and killed. So Alpha Winter planned a retaliation attack against them in the middle of the night.

Alpha Winter gave orders to kill the whole pack, the men, women, and children. So his warriors burned down their homes, had their women raped, and took all their resources. He was angry and wanted a genocide.

But it's said in the middle of attack amongst the smoke, the screams and blood, he encountered his true mate. He smelt her under one of the homes hiding in a cellar.

She was the daughter of the packs beta. It's said she was beautiful, tall with golden sunshine hair. He took her back home after killing her whole pack.

Her name was Rose and she soon became the packs Luna. The pack loved her and even though the pack killed all those she grew up with and loved she was kind to them.

But she could never forgive Alpha Winter and refused to love him and his wolf.

She wasted away and eventually lost her wolf. She took her own life feeling truly abandoned and alone.

And Alpha Winter went mad and then threw himself off a cliff."

I ask, "How do you know this would happen to us?"

Elder Mary responds, "I don't, but legends have some truths to them and I would prefer to listen then dismiss them."

They look at each other again.

"There is also other legends dealing with twins, especially twins of true mates. They are scared. It's believed the bond between them can be used to break the rules of nature. Not many people know of these legends but it can be found in the scared texts held at the council. I don't think the person who attacked Luna Rain's pack has killed her sisters," Elder Jacob adds.

I lean back into my chair and the Elders watch me.

"Does Alpha Storm know this?"

"We don't think so," Elder Herb says.

"I will contact him. I'll also be sending a few members to assist with investigating the attack.

Find out how many know of this sacred text and those crazy enough to try and perform whatever evil is in them. You are dismissed," I say.

They leave the room and I grab the phone to make a call.

Rain:

I wake up thirsty. I move, these sheets don't feel right. I clench in fright. Where am I?

Then I smell him. Right, I'm here. I sit up and see him asleep on the couch he set up at the foot of bed.

Did I sleep through him shifting that around? I lie back down. I don't want to get out of bed.
