Chapter One

How We Met

Heather

It's all because of me. It's my fault because I fell in love with him... It only took two seconds for it to happen to each of us, but it was never his fault. He had the purest heart that I almost felt like I wasn't worthy of him, but he said my heart was better. Look at what my heart got us into though.

Now we are both lying here in a hospital bed clinging to life as if it were a life preserver and we were in the center of the ocean about to drown. I caused this, but worst of all, if we survive this we might not remember each other the next day. All that love for nothing. All this suffering, all those nights of crying into my best friends arms, all of those times of just us being us, all of this would be for nothing.

It sounds impossible, like how could I know this, but the next day I won't know a thing? Well, I'm in a coma, I've been coming in and out of it for hours and I overheard some nurses talking. I was able to figure it out from the little snippets of the conversation that I heard. Hey, when you're in a coma you have a lot of time to think. They kept saying that we were both fighting the drugs in us for some reason and that they couldn't wait until the coma's wore off to do the surgery needed. I guess we both weren't supposed to be in coma's, more than likely we were just meant to be knocked out, but the drugs messed with our systems.

I started to remember how this all happened to be, but another thing I overheard the nurses talking about is that there were certain times when my heart would over react. They didn't know that every time that my heart did that was when I was thinking about that day.

It all started when I looked into his eyes.

Gaylen

It all started when I looked into her eyes.

They had to have been the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. Most guys would say that about women but hers... They were a perfect cloudy blue. I was guessing that they were so much more than that though. I had to see what they looked like up close. They were just so beautiful. Her lips were the next thing I saw. They weren't plump or skinny or bright red or bulging out there. No, her lips were curved and smooth looking. Her lips begged to be kissed. Then I looked at the rest of her.

I almost fell to my knees. She had wavy brown hair with streaks of blue in it. She wore tennis shoes, skinny jeans, and a sweatshirt. Most would say that it wouldn't be attractive on anyone, but on her she looked like a freaking model. Her body was curved like her lips and I wanted to touch every inch of her. Wait what was I thinking? I had a girlfriend... I think. At the moment I wasn't sure. That was a bad thing though.

I mean I didn't even know her name, if she had a boyfriend, and why the hell was she the only teen girl here at the party? It was my friends birthday and I really didn't have anything better to do so I thought why not. I should have stayed home.

Someone from a different side of the room shouted, "Heather come in and say hi to grandma and grandpa!"

What? Then it clicked. She had to be related to Nick. Oh, man I was so screwed. She quickly made her way over towards me and I realized that I was standing next to her grandparents. She looked up at me and she blushed within two seconds. What was she thinking? Was it about me? It had to have been because she was looking right at me. She turned her head to her grandpa and gave him a hug. That lucky bastard.
