Chapter One

I had always been the runt of my pack. The one that no one liked, I could die and no one would care. I was the daughter of the beta, the only child. I think that was the main reason that my parents hated me. They always wanted a boy, someone who could take over the beta position and keep our bloodline going. After getting pregnant my mother underwent some difficulties and it turns out she couldn’t get pregnant again, I was lucky to be alive. Or maybe not so lucky.

Ever since I was a kid, I was the outcast. The girl who sat in the corner of the room, while everyone else played tag. It only got worse as the years progressed. I was the ‘nerd’ in high school. Everyone seemed to get some sort of joy out of seeing me in pain, so they bullied me, physically and emotionally. I used to want to fight back, to want to prove everyone wrong, prove that I was strong. Now I just let them tease me, let them have their fun.

The worst of it comes from the alpha’s son, Tom. He thinks he’s so high and mighty because he is to be the next alpha. Every day he would remind me of my ‘place’. Sometimes him and his friends would beat me up, other times they would just call me names and watch me cry. Only I don’t cry anymore, I ran out of tears some time ago.

Today was the day where tom would be announced as the new alpha of the Blue Moon pack. This was a huge deal to any pack, so we all had to dress nicely and attend a pack meeting. Normally I wasn’t allowed to attend the meetings, but since today was oh so important, the alpha was letting me come. I looked myself over in the mirror one more time before giving myself a sad smile and grabbing my sad excuse for a phone.

“Greta get your ass downstairs or we’ll leave without you!” My mum yelled from the door.

I hurried down the stairs, almost tripping a few times, but successfully getting into the car in one piece, today was going to be a complete disaster for me, I just knew it.

The bonfire was set up with logs all around, acting as seats and a big timber stage up the front. The alpha and his family sat at the front, in plastic chairs. I noticed Tom give me an evil smirk as I walked past, sending shivers down my spine. He was bad enough when he was the alpha’s son; he was only going to be worse now that he was in charge. My parents took a seat on a log far away from me, so I took a seat at the back, alone.

The ceremony didn’t last long, they just had to recite the oath about protecting the pack and other crap. Tom was now the alpha and I was doomed.

Food trays had been setup for everyone to have a snack on once the ceremony had ended, but I knew that I wouldn’t be allowed to eat any of that food. I just stood around near the outskirts of the forest, watching everyone laugh and have a good time.

It was around ten minutes later when I saw Tom and his friends approach me. I let out a silent curse. I knew this was going to happen. I had been hoping that I could hide away, until it was over and avoid them completely.  They all snickered at the scared expression on my face.

“Oh did poor Greta think she could avoid us the whole night?” Tom called out.

“That’s what I was hoping”, I whispered quietly. Not quietly enough…

“You dare speak back to your alpha?! I am in charge here, apologise!”

The wolf in me was starting to obey its alpha, but I kept silent. After Tom realised that I wasn’t going to apologise he started shaking with anger. I knew what was going to happen, it had happened before. He was struggling to control his wolf, and it wasn’t long before he would shift. I knew I had to get away, and fast.

I shifted quickly into my pure white wolf, before leaping into the forest. I heard Tom and his friends shift into their wolves and chase after me. I leapt over branches and rocks, not having a particular destination, just trying to get away.

I was starting to get tires, and I was shoved to the ground by a large brown wolf. Tom. He growled angrily and nit down on my stomach. I heard a few of my ribs crack, before an indescribable pain started to spread through my whole body. Blood was pouring from the wound, staining my fur.  With one last surge of strength, I shoved Tom away with my hind legs and ran back into the forest.

I knew that Tom would catch up, due to the alpha blood that pumped through his veins, but that didn’t stop me from running. His paws were getting louder now, thudding against the forest floor. I turned my head and saw him leap forward to nip my ear. I sped up and he just missed, letting out a growl of frustration.

I kept running, starting to feel light headed from the loss of blood, and the amount of energy I used. Tom continued to chase me, until suddenly he just stopped. His friends caught up to him, and stopped at the same point. Confusion swept through me, why did they stop? Were they tired?

I sniffed thee air and suddenly it dawned on me. They didn’t stop because they were tired, they stopped because I had just entered another packs territory, but not just any pack; the Black Dusk pack.

That’s it for the first chapter; I’ll make another one within a few days. Please vote, fan or comment if you enjoyed it.
