I was running as fast as my 5’3 figure would carry me. Down the dark street, my heart pumping so loudly you could hear it from a mile away. Thunder in the sky and rain dropping so hard, all you could see was 6 foot in front of you. Their footsteps behind me sounded. With my fear and desperation, I made a right turn into a dark, wet alleyway. As I ran down it seeing light on the other side, I saw a shadow.

I thought it was my savior. My rescuer. I thought I would be free in no time, that Superman would just fly down and save me. You see, I’m not usually in these situations, being from a rich family and all, but I always had a savior. Rather it was my dog when a rabbit cat was about to attack me, or my neighbor, Will, when the creepy old man came by for his daily walk. No matter what situation I was in I always, ALWAYS had someone there to save me.

As the shadow of the man advanced toward me I took a few steps back and turned my head to see the other sides were my followers were also coming toward me. I looked around frantic for help.  That’s when I thought this was it; I was going to die, or worse.

“Hey there, sugar” the oldest one said I could barely make out his features but I could see his dark prickly-like beard.

“Nate, man, you told me I could have this one” another one said. The one I saw coming through the light.

As they argued back and fourth their voices became louder, until they were yelling at each other.

“Hey! What the-“ a soft female voice came from behind us. I squinted and tried to make out what she looked like. “Get away from her!” A bean can went flying and hit Nate in the back of the head.

He turned furiously toward the girl. “Now listen here, girly, I was just going to let you go, but now-“ he got cut off by the sound of a deeper voice. “But now you’re all going to run along and pretend this never happened.” It said.

For some reason when all the men that were crowding around me turned and noticed the boy, who-from what I see- was only around 22 years old or so, they all gasped.

“Yes, we were just leaving” one of the men said. “Just having a little fun, you know?” Nate said as he stumbled back with his other friends.

As soon as they were gone, the girl looked at me and motioned with her hands for me to come closer. As I stepped forward with tears in my eyes, she hugged me and told me everything was going to be ok. I’m not sure what happened but somehow I managed to fall asleep in her arms with the man next to her watching me.

                                                              ****************************

I awoke with the soft humming of a radio playing. My eyes spread wide as I noticed this uncomfortable bed was not mine.

“Someone’s finally awake” a familiar voice yelled. A girl about 16 or 17 with dark curly hair looked down at me with curiosity in her big crystal blue eyes.

“Where am I?” I questioned her as I looked around. I was in a small messy room that was all in pink.

“My house silly! Don’t you remember what happened yesterday?” she scrunched up her eye brows  at me.

That’s when it all came flooding back to me. The alley. The men. Nate. Even the bean can. I shuttered back. She looked down at me with sorrow in her eyes.

“Oh. I’m sorry. Zak told me not to bring it up till you were ready” she sighed.

“It’s okay” I reassured her, not wanting her to be sad. “What’s your name?” I asked wanting to change the subject.

Her bright smile told me I did the right thing “I’m Natalie Lee Prather, but you can just call me Lee. What’s you name?”

“Evermore Rush” I said happily. I love my name, my mom used to sing me the song that she made up herself called “Evermore Rush”. My mom was the best mom anyone could ever ask for. That was, until she died of course.

“That’s a pretty name but do you mind if I just call you Ever?” she asked. And as I was about to answer a soft knock came from the door. “Come in!” Lee shouted.

As the door opened, in walked the hottest guy in the planet earth. He smiled gently at me and his sister-which was obvious since they looked so much alike. “How are you girls doing?” he asked even though he was looking directly at me.

“Fine” my soft, even voice came out raspy-like. I wondered who this strange man was, but I knew that he was the guy who was with Lee last night. The one those men were scared of.

“That’s good. Would you like to take a shower?” he asked tentively, like I was fragile and he didn’t want me to go deaf or something if he spoke to loud. I looked down at myself. My dark skinny jeans were a little damp and I my baby blue tank was dry now. I fingered my  bouncy light curls.

“Yes, please. That would be nice” I said looking him straight in the eyes. Oh, those pretty clear blue eyes.

Whatever happened in that alleyway, I’m glad they were there, I thought as I looked at my saviors.
