Jeremy awoke from a peaceful slumber on a crisp and misty Thursday night to the presence of his beloved wife's warm body missing from beside his. Slowly he rose out of their shared bed and moved his feet onto the cool hard wood floor letting a slight shiver run down his spine, he slipped into a pair of slippers set aside the bed and stood up before moving towards the light switch on the wall across the room.
After a few moments of blindly searching for it in the dark, he felt a gooey object being squashed under the pressure of his left foot. Startled, he quickly reattempted finding the light switch and upon finding it he hastily turned it on.
Looking down to where he was previously standing he found that what he had stepped on was, strangely enough, a jelly donut.
"Erica just can't resist the temptations of food, even at this ungodly hour." Jeremy said taking off his now jelly stained slipper with the other fallowing.
He then made his way into the poorly illuminated hallway which held stairs descending into darkness at the end, he groggily walked down each step sleep still fresh in his system.
Once he reached the bottom of the staircase he saw a light peeking through the slightly jarred kitchen door, slowly he looked into the crevasse and what he saw sent chills up his spine.
There in the kitchen was a dark figure blanketed in shadows opening up the window above the sink and crawling out, disappearing through it.
After making sure the intruder had surely left Jeremy fully opened the door and entered the kitchen now feeling extremely concerned for his wife's well-being. He looked around the kitchen with only one thing catching his eye, it was a folded piece of paper with his name signed on it.
The contents written said, "hello Jeremy, I met with your lovely wife Erica not to long ago. Hah, she seems to like jelly donuts quite a bit so I decided to be kind enough to let her have the experience of being one. I've left her upstairs for you, oh and watch your step. Enjoy!"
