I sat on the seat curled up looking out the window, I was lucky to make friends with the conductor because she lets me stay on the train and shares her lunch with me. I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself I'm Silver Themis I'm 16 years old and I have been living on a train for about a week, I used to have a loving family go to a great school and I was the best on the cheer and dance team. But all that changed a few months ago when my  sister and my dad where killed in a plane crash, my brother was in the army and my mom, she became more distant, she eventually started drinking and then became abusive. A week ago she kicked me out and now I'm just sitting on a subway in New York which has now became my home. I sigh and curl up move wrapping my jacket tighter around me, it probably wasn't the wisest choice as a jacket it was very thin, but it had my brothers name sewn into the side and his rank on the other side, he left it last time he visited, right before my mom started drinking. I smiled as the last of the people got off and Mrs. Alex, the conductor pulled into her spot for lunch she stopped the train and walked down to the car I was in.
"Hey sweetie how are you doing" she says sitting next to me "great, a little girl gave me some candy and a hug" I say smiling. "Well here" she says handing me a brown bag. Everyday she would bring me a little care packages with dry conditioner face wash a hair brush wipes and food. I hug her and slowly eat my sandwich, by the time I finished we were moving again. People started coming in and soon we were full again, I curl up again resting my head against the window, someone taps me on my shoulder and I turn to face them. He had curly hair pulled back into a ponytail and had a puzzled expression, "uh you know where army-" he says with a strong French accent obviously struggling with English "vous parlez français?" I interrupt and his eyes light up "Oui" he responds happily "ne savez -vous où vous inscrire à l'armée?" He asks pointing to my jacket and I nod hesitantly, I had never thought of 'visiting' my brother. He had so much going on already so I didn't want to trouble him... But I may not even see him so what do I have to loose

(Translations vous parlez français : you speak French? Oui : yes ne savez -vous où vous inscrire à l'armée : do you know where to sign up for the army)
