New Friends

So life could of never been better with my pal, Alex. He showed me crazy games like Bioshock, or some lame ones like Skyrim. He took me to every sushi bar and comic shop he knew and I managed to find.

The year was coming to an end, snow melting away and the sun beating its lovely shine on my scalp. Alex was able to buy himself a new skateboard, his goal was to teach me. After ten falls, two bloody knees, and six falls on my back, I was a real pro. I used the allowance from my foster family to buy me one, plain white for starters.
"So where to? Last day of school and all, we have to have something special. What do you have in mind? Hm?" Alex swung in circles on his board around me, trying to get an answer from my busy mind.
"Sushi?"
"Nah, not special enough," he laughs and stops quickly, watching as a Lexus pulls up next to us.
"Cherry!" a stupid voice fills my ears. Mark steps out and jumps to my side, "I need to talk to you."
"About?" I grabbed my board, watching as Alex soared down the sidewalk.
"Us.. I know you and.. what's his face are a thing, but.. I miss you. I can't get you off my mind." His hands seemed to keep moving, even after he was done talking.
"What? Alex and I are not a thing, we're friends. I'm sure you don't understand what friends are but we do. Now if you'll excuse me, Alex and I are going to have some fun for the end of the year." Marks jaw drops an inch, probably surprised, but I don't really care. History like they say. I jump on my board and chase after Alex, leaving Mark in my fabulous dust.

Alex found an abandoned house we managed to break into and chill in. The floor still had its shabby carpet and the wall paper was peeling off in long strips, the steps to the upstairs rooms creaked every little pressure being put on them. I couldn't stop laughing as we trudged up those steps. Upstairs, one room still had a bed that we managed to rip the old and dust covered sheets off. We jumped up and down on it, a bit scared the floor may cave in underneath us, but we kept having fun.

"Some place, huh?"
"Better than the Plaza," I couldn't help but smile as we shared a coke on the lumpy bed.
"Last day of school. This year went by too slow it seems."
"Psh, that's a lie, felt like yesterday we met."
"Eh," Alex chugged a bit more than we promised to share, leaving me the leftover spit.
"Ew,"
"Drink it, it's protein," he laughed and handed it to me, watching as my face twisted in disgust.

It was close to midnight, we laid on the bed listening to music and talking about everyday things. It felt good to have a friend, someone to complain to.. not to have sex with. Yuh know? Of course you know. Every girl has a bestie like that. Mine.. just happens to be a nerdy but cute guy. Then, I had to ask..
"Um.. would you ever try to have sex with me?"
"Wait.. what? What?!" Alex choked on his spit a bit, sitting up so he can see me.
"Would you?"
"No, you're my friend. I'll only make a move if u wanted me to sure.. but no."
I felt a little disappointment raise up in my face, making Alex try and rephrase that. Why am I disappointed anyway?
"I-I don't know. You're my best friend.."

We looked at each other for a bit, I knew what he was trying to get at. He didn't want to damage the relationship. Me either, but there's something about him..

I guess we fell asleep because I don't remember falling asleep, just darkness and misunderstanding. The sun was slowly crawling through the boarded up windows and dancing across the walls, brightening the room. My head was on Alex's chest, his sweater draped over me. His hands were far away from me, his face calm as he slept. I couldn't help but smile.

"To start off the day, you must need breakfast," Alex kept pointing to each cafe we passed, saying the same thing over and over. I wouldn't stop, I just kept smiling and hoping he followed. Which he did, like my little puppy. His hair was toppled over from sleep, I tried smoothing mine back in a messy bun, it's messy alright. We headed into a small gas station, buying banana nut muffins and small cartons of milk. I took him to a park, fresh air was good for this boy. We sat under the largest oak tree in the park. The shade kept us cool from the already hot sun.
Alex wouldn't stop burping from his breakfast and I couldn't stop choking on my muffin from laughing so hard. Then.. the Lexus. Mark walked fast towards us, I sighed and waited for him to be closer.
"What now?"
"I want you back, I can't stop thinking about you. Please.. Cherry.." Mark landed on his knees grasping at my hands, I was in complete shock. Alex was too.
"Uh-um.. Mark.. we-we're done. Go back to how you lived, before me. Back to your ways."
Mark seemed like he was going to cry, Alex sighed a bit and kept biting at his muffin, intrigued on really nothing. I whispered to Mark now, "we.. we were never a couple.. you knew this."
Mark slowly peered towards the ground, nodding to let me know he understood, but he wouldn't leave.
"I.. want to be with you.." he looked up at me now, "please be with me.."
I swallowed hard..
