Mondays are no ones favourite day. The idea of having another week of school was enough for any to run a mile. But this particular unclouded Monday morning, Kendall Vertes was looking forward to. The whole town was in total mourning and shock over the death of the teenage legend; except Kendall. She was happy to see the end of his backstabbing lies and his constant fear that he brought to everyone. Even she once was scared of him. During the accident that was.
Kendall fought her way through the crowded halls,of sobbing teens. If Vasinville Prep High has ever been 'un-perfect' it would be now. The overheard blue and red 'Congratulations Eagles! Best Football School Team in Pittsburg' banners wouldn't even save them now from their 'un-perfectness'.
Get over yourselves, Kendall wanted to yell, though she kept her mouth shut, even though she was happy for his death, she understood how these others may feel. Once she finally got her way round the 'heartbroken, distraught' teenagers she met her new friends, Chloe,Maddie,Kalani and Brynn outside the main hall."How are we all?" Maddie asks, looking down at her shoes. Kalani just twiddles her hair round her freshly manicured finger, Brynn adjusts the straps to her backpack and Chloe fiddles with her brass case next to her. Kendall was the only one with courage to admit how she really feels.
"I feel safe for once," she muttered. Kalani stopped and looked up at the girl in front of her, almost as she said how she felt. Kendall looked at her and smiled, something she's not done in a while.
"I agree, I don't think I've seen anyone upset because of bullying, only because the bully is now gone," Brynn replied. The girls all nodded.
"What's the assembly on?" Chloe asked, trying to change the conversation.
"Nolan, and drug use and bullying. What a surprise, even when's he's gone he's still top in conversation and still the most popular. I wonder if there's such thing as a king in heaven." Kalani answered.
The girls couldn't help but let out a laugh at what she said.
"Does everyone have to go?" Kendall asked, hoping there would be a no answer in there.
"It's mandatory, plus if we don't go we'll look suspicious." Replied Kalani.
Kendall just stared at her friend. Like she cared about mandatory anything."We should get going," Chloe stated. The girls waltzed into the hall. Kendall reluctantly followed. As they walked in, the first thing your eyes saw was the huge montage of Nolan playing on the screen. A big RIP was underneath and of course a bottle of Oxycontain, the drug of which the girls drugged him with, came up with every slide. Although the room was packed with sobbing girls and muffled voices, the room felt awfully eerie quiet, almost like there was a ghost in the room. Almost like Nolan was in the room. The thought was alone was enough for Kendall to shake.
"You okay?" Brynn asked, clutching her friends arm as Kendall started to to faint.
"Yeah, I think so. I just feel so, you know, guilty." Kendall replied.
"We all do, but we can't feel guilty about what he did, only he can now he's gone," reassured Brynn.
"I guess you're right, but I want to know is how did one single Oxy kill him. One is the prescribed amount, how did it effect him just like that?" Kendall went on to say. The four girls stopped and turned back to face their friend after her comment.
"We don't know, I guess we'll just have to see what the police say but for now, let's just sit down and at least pretend to be normal." Maddie laughed.
Normal. Kendall had been normal since that point. Kendall had even been popular since that night. That night where Nolan had got the better of her. That night where all of her problems disappeared and she felt free. That night where Nolan had slipped her that Oxy and then took pictures of her. Not the revealing photos that Chloe had a motive for but the type that people would get the wrong impression from. The type that made her look like the druggie her dad was known to be. Ever since that night Kendall's life had been turned upside down. Her dad got thrown in prison. He was already on his last strike so when the police had heard that his daughter had been drugged, they automatically jumped to conclusions to throw him in a cell. Her mother blamed her for it all and refused to speak to her ever since. Her sisters avoids her at all costs, believing everything Nolan had said. All of her classmates believed she was a drug addict, they believed she was like her father, something she did not want to be. The though of this brought tears to her eyes. The tears weren't for the dead corpse that was probably haunting over her but they were for her old life, the life she missed with him. Her and Nolan used to be friends, really good friends even until that night. They went for a drive because they both couldn't sleep. In the early hours of that morning, Nolan and a Kendall sat on Vasinvilles largest hill that looked over the town and clogged down their bottles of vodka they'd stollen from home.
"It's an ugly looking place isn't it," Kendall slurred, pointing towards the town below them.
"I know a way to make it look beautiful," Nolan smirked.
"How?" Kendall asked so innocent and vulnerable. Little did she know that, that one question could lead to so much damage.
"I have to go," Kendall cried, snapping back to reality.
"Do you need us to go with you?" Kalani asked, worry spreading across her face.
Kendall shook her head and left the group of girls. She went down the back fire staircase and went to her little spot in the school gardens, underneath the memorial arch for a previous teacher. The sun beaded down on her in her little black skater skirt and matching crop top but she didn't care, the sun couldn't do any more damage.
"Kendall?" A voice called from behind her.
Kendall turned alarmed, no one knew about this spot but her. Kendall answered back,
"Oh hi Kyle,"Kyke Smith sat on the bench behind her, his arm sprawled out along the back of it.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked.
"I should be asking you the same thing."
"I needed to get away from all this pointless Nolan mourning."
"Me too."
