I found Chrissy and grabbed her. I thought the world of Chrissy, mum never said how she fell pregnant with her but she told me it was a miracle from god, which I know now, is impossible, I think. I shouted for gran to help mum but there was no reply. I didn't know what to do but to run out the house and as far as I could from the men as possible, but what about mum. I hesitated and looked back but two of the men were on my tail. I continued to sprint and found a gap in between two dumpsters. I slid in between both of them and sat behind them, hoping the men wouldn't find me here. Chrissy started to cry. 'No no Chrissy shhhh' I needed to shut her up. I looked to my right and found a small teddy bear. I grabbed it and showed her. 'Look Chrissy, who's this?' I said in a whisper. She took the bear from my hands. After examination she stopped crying and began to giggle and play with it. I smiled at her but then I heard them coming. They weren't running, they were walking. The footsteps stopped. A raspy voice started to speak. 'Come on out boy, we ain't gonna hurt ya'. The two cackled. They were about to walk further when Chrissy squealed. 'So that's where you're hiding?' The two of them walked over to the bins.

I knew exactly what to do; I saw it in a movie! As they crept round the side of the bin, I crept round the other side and when they were eventually round the back, I was at the front. I legged it as fast as I could. I ran for about 5 minutes but there was no sign of them anywhere. Whilst running, I bumped into a policeman. 'What are you doing outside at this time...with a baby?' 'Sir, I need youre help, these men were chasing me and they were after my sister and- 'Okay okay, why don't you take me to your home?' I led him home, explaining what had happened to me and mum. He offered to carry Chrissy on the way back but there was no way I was letting go of her. When we arrived at the house, it was dead quiet. 'Stay out here please' I obeyed his order. I stood there shaking with Chrissy and the box in my arms. Chrissy was asleep, god knows how, she still had that little bear gripped firmly in her hands.

The officer came out and said 'I need you to get in the car with me'. I was petrified, why'd I need to get in the car. However, I obeyed, too scared to ask why. The journey was silent, and it took a pretty long time. Eventually we arrived. We parked outside a massive building, it looked pretty scary. He walked me too the door which had a massive bell on it. A lady answered the door; she was old with silver hair and wrinkles. She wore a brown dress with a white apron. She looked really friendly. The officer went in with the lady and left me out there for a while. The only thing they asked me was who was in my family apart from mum and gran, I said no one. The officer eventually came out and said 'see ya kid, I hope you find everything your looking for'. Huh? What was he on about? The lady waved bye to the officer and asked me to follow her. She sat me down in a small living room which had a green sofa and a tv. She then began to talk. She explained why I was here, why I was in an orphanage.

My heart broke and I felt every last bit of me die inside. She told me my mother and gran were murdered. I was now an orphan, not knowing who my dad was. I burst into tears and she left me in there with the baby who also started crying, but she didn't know why. After calming down, she told me what was going to happen. I was going to live here with the other orphans until I was 16, I wasn't going to be up for adoption as I was too old. Her name was miss wool, she ran the orphanage. There were lots of other carers there aswell as her. After explaining, she led me to my room. I had my own private room for now until I got myself settled. My room had a wooden floor with a red rug in the middle. There was a radio on a bench and a bed at the end of the room. There was a box of donated toys in the corner which reminded me of the one at home. Ms wool then asked me to hand over Chrissy. There was no way she was leaving me, no way! After a lot of discussion I got to keep her. She would sleep in the same room as me but, during the day, had to go with children her own age but I could see her whenever I wanted.

My days in the orphanage got pretty okay, I became well known in the orphanage and was pretty popular. When Chrissy turned 3 and I turned 14, we would always pull pranks on the carers. We had a lot of fun together and we were super close. I had jet black hair and icy blue eye. Chrissy had the same. She had really long hair for her age but she was really cute. We looked the same but obviously different gender. Oh, the present, rewind! I opened the present as soon as I got in my room for the first time. Inside was a book. The book was the same material as the box and had the same pattern on. I opened it and what read on the first page was:

There wasn't anything else in the book but I kept to my mother's word, not showing anyone or telling anyone about it.

Nothing changed in the book until I turned 16. I saw the book glow on the night of my 16th birthday. On the second page was a pattern.
