Chapter 1

Kamil King Anthony Johnson

As summer was winding down I was doing last minute touch ups on my summer assignment.

The only project I hadn't done was the AP English assignment.

We were given partners and I was partnered with the girl who barely spoke to anyone.

I didn't have her number but I was friends with one of her friends.

Brylee.

Brylee was the only person she'd speak with AT ALL.

I decided to shoot Brylee a quick text.

Kamil: Bry, u got janai numba?

Bry : Lol, yes Kamil, that's my sister.

Damn. I see the resemblance now.

Kamil: Can I get it for dis project?

I waited a half hour for no reply.

What type of shit is this?

I kept reading over the rubric and the requirements when I realized she wasn't going to reply.

Looking down at my phone, I took notice of the time.

2:43 PM.

"Chay, Noonie, Kay come here."

I called for my nieces.

They had been here all summer and was going back home tonight.

One by one they ran into my room.

"Milly!" they all recited in unison.

They hopped on my bed, hugging and kissing me while giggling.

"Who want to go get some ice cream?"

They all answered at the same time and I took that as a yes.

I slipped on my Nike slides and started to walk down the stairs.

They followed me, hot on my heels.

"Ma, I got the girls, we gone be back." I yelled walking past the kitchen.

We locked up the house before proceeding to get in the car.

"Uncle Mil can I sit in the front seat?" I heard Chay ask.

"Girl, you tried it. Get in the back and buckle up."

I made sure they were all buckled up and ready to go.

Instead of just getting ice cream I decided to take them to the park.

Soon as I pulled up and put the car in park they were already out the car.

I got out and followed behind them.

"Milly, can you push me on the swings pwease?" Kay Kay asked.
