09 | THANK THE LORD FOR PERIODS

"Promise you'll call every day?" Audrey asked as she hugged Piper goodbye. Three days had passed since Emily and Jonathan's wedding. While they prepared for their honeymoon, Oliver had offered to drop us off at the airport for our departure.

I was glad that I came back here and fixed things up with everyone. After the breakup, my friendship with my friends were strained. Although we still kept in touch over the years, I felt like there was a bit of distance between us (metaphorically and not just literally). After getting closer and finally talking things over with Oliver that things felt normal again. Maybe it was just me and guilt the whole time but I was glad things were much better now.

The blonde girl nodded, her blue eyes determined as she replied, "I promise," before pulling away from the hug. Piper pulled something out of her backpack, handing it to Audrey. "So you don't forget me," she said shyly.

Grinning, Audrey unwrapped the present, her smile growing as she hugged the stuffed dog. "Thank you!" And then, she was undoing her charm bracelet. "Give me your hand," she told Piper and quickly hooked the bracelet around Piper's hand just as she said, "So you won't forget me."

The two of them giggled and I couldn't help but to smile at their exchange. They've grown to be such close friends in a matter of days. I hoped that their friendship was something that would last forever.

"I'll be back before Christmas!" Audrey promised. "Then, me and Mommy will stay here forever."

"Forever?" Piper asked, looking hopeful. At the same time, Oliver caught on Audrey's words, his eyes on me, raising a brow as if waiting for an explanation. I only smiled, nodding to confirm Audrey's statement, in which causing Oliver to smile back just as widely as Piper.

Audrey nodded eagerly. "That's what Mommy said."

When the person in front of us left the line to get their ticket checked, we aid our goodbyes. Piper and Audrey were reluctant to leave one another and Oliver had pulled me into one last hug before letting go and ushering me to one of the ladies waiting behind a booth.

Audrey and I got our papers checked over and were told to head to security to get our bags checked. We waved goodbye to Piper and Oliver as we entered deeper into the airport terminal.

Yo. Do you remember where the spare keys are? I SWEAR we hide them under the huge pot of plant but it isn't there. Also, how's the job applications going on? Let me know if you need help because I write some pretty kickass cover letters.

[ 02 June 20x2 7:11 AM ] Ella Conner :
It's barely been a week, Em. I just started applying but I'll let you know if anything comes up.
Your keys are taped under the loose step on the porch, remember? You had to change it because you kept complaining on how Oliver uses it too much.

[ 02 June 20x2 7:15 AM ] MRS JONATHAN MARTIN :
Not even five sentenses in and you manage to bring up Oliver.

[ 02 June 20x2 7:17 AM ] Ella Conner :
How's Hawaii?
