Glass Heart

Dear boy with the glass heart,
why do let people paint you like a pretty picture,
draw all over you like you're some kind of incomplete canvas.

Can't you see that you are already a masterpiece?
You aren't a first draft of a story that needs editing.
So why do you let people warp you into something you're not?

Why do you always assume everyone is lying?
Like it's some kind play; everyone pretending.
There's one person who tries to convince you that it'll be okay.
So why don't you just believe them?

You think you're being strong but you're not.
You just push people away even if it hurts them.
You put up a barrier that even bombs cant break.

Dear boy with the glass heart,
I know you act like everything is fine.
Even when your glass heart has shattered.

You try to pick up each piece,
one by one,
shard by shard.

You cut yourself on the glass,
but it's okay, right?
You aren't bleeding out.

But you keep going. Picking up each piece.
Not caring if you get injured along the way.

You leave a trail of red.
People follow, wanting to be entertained.
but honey, little do they know that they'll be disgusted.

They wont like the show you'll put on. They'll say things like,
"Attention seeker."
"Drama Queen."
"Freak."
"Selfish."

But you and I both know its not true, So why does it even matter?
Why put on a mask for people you don't like?
Why leave the trail of red for them?
If you don't want them to follow,
then why?

Dear boy with the glass heart,
Don't forget about the person who followed you because of you,
not because of the trail you left.

There's no need to cut yourself upon the broken pieces.
You can build your glass heart back together,
use super glue instead of tape.

Don't let the people with no art taste to decide what color you should be painted.
Don't let the people with no experience try to "perfect" you.
Don't let the people who sing off key decide what song you should sing.

Dear boy with the glass heart,
there's no need to leave that trail
