'Myrnin?' Claire peered into the lab. Myrnin was nowhere to be found. The lab looked just as messy as she'd last seen it. She tried to get Myrnin to tidy it but he never listens. 'Myrnin? I brought coffee and doughnuts.'
'Ah Claire What a pleasant surprise.' Myrnin stepped out of the back room. 'I was just feeding Bob.' Claire walked over to Myrnin and handed him his coffee and doughnuts. Myrnin took a sip of his coffee and then put it down. He grabbed Claire's face in his hands. He studies her face for a moment. 'Have you been crying?'
Claire sighed. 'It's nothing.'
'Was it that Collins boy?' Myrnin looked at Claire. 'Has he stopped your relationship?'
'No.' Claire sighed. She could tell Myrnin couldn't she? She trusted him even though she knew she shouldn't. Myrnin used to have a disease which acted like Bipolar and Alzheimer's disease. He got cured but sometimes Claire forgot that he was cured and it seems like he did too. 'I broke up with him.'
'Why? I thought you loved him.' Myrnin started scoffing his face with his doughnuts.
'I did- I mean I do. I just can't be with him right now.' Claire's eyes started to water. She quickly swiped the tears away with her sleeve.
'Why don't you tell me about what happened. I'm very good at listening and I could even help you.' Myrnin put his coffee down and sat on a stool across from Claire. Claire sat on the stool behind her and blurted the story out yet again.
When she finished Myrnin came over and hugged her. Yes. Myrnin just hugged her.
He awkwardly patted her back whilst hugging her. She guessed Myrnin hadn't hugged anyone in a while. Claire relaxed into the hug and pulled Myrnin closer. She felt Myrnin relax into the hug and it actually felt comforting.
When Claire finally finished blubbering she let go of Myrnin and stepped back feeling much better 'Thanks Myrnin.' Claire gave Myrnin a warm smile which wasn't actually fake.
Myrnin returned the smile and continued eating his doughnuts. Claire sipped her coffee and relaxed. She didn't think telling Myrnin would help but it actually did.
'Claire, I was told to give you this.' Myrnin pulled out a small box. It was wrapped in delicate red ribbon and had a label attached with Claire's name printed in elegant handwriting. She opened the box. Inside was a small piece of expensive looking paper.
Claire,
I hope Myrnin did as he was told and gave you this. This is a small token of my appreciation. It seems that you have done wonders to the town and town's people. Vampires and Humans seem to be living in piece and as the Founder of Morganville I would like to present you with this gift as a mutual agreement. No vampire or human will go unpunished for harming you or your friends. The punishments will be fair. Thank you Claire. Things are changing in Morganville, changing for the better.
Amelie
'What's in the box?' Myrnin tried to look into the box. Claire pulled it out of his view and took a look inside.
Inside there was a small bracelet. Claire pulled out the bracelet. It had a simple chain and attached to the chain was a small heart. On the heart it was engraved Thank you Claire.
Myrnin went to take the necklace. As soon as he touched it he pulled his hand back quickly. 'Silver.' Myrnin used a piece of cloth near by to pick up the bracelet. Myrnin studied it for a minute. 'Amelie made a promise to you. That makes no sense. Amelie is not one to give promises. You have to be really special'
