Us night owls
We are different
We live among hoots and howls
We are spontaneous and inconsistent
Sometimes giving smiles and sometimes growlsThe early bird gets the worm and
The late owl all the mice
When the moon tops its arc
Only then do we take out our diceAll have their strengths and their weaknesses
Every building has its crack
What they have, we need
And what we have, they lackThey are more
And we are less
They call it cursed
We call it blessedWe may not see their flowers and birds
But they don't hear the soft wind and chirpsThey miss the crisp night air
Slicing through your lungs
Or the moon at full glory, quite fair
Just looking at it makes all feel numbThe dust of gods twinkling down from the heavens
Beckoning you to come their way
Reaching up for escape
Just to remember you're here to stayDay brings distraction and craze
We all stumble forward as if in a maze
Night brings serene quiet and rest
Meditation and pondering, over here it's the bestDark half moons and ruffled hair
When we step into day. Out of our ebony lair
They can call somber, they can call us jest
We will wear our markings
It is our crest
