"But--but--I--" my words were coming out in little chunks. The lack of breath from the shock was enabling me to speak. Once Chad had completely disappeared, the wind in the forest that whistled through the trees and bushes had settled down to a light breeze. The boy who had defended me from Chad stood as still as a statue, he had his back to me, hanging his head.
"What did you just do?" I asked, managing to catch my breath again. His head snapped upright, at an angle. His balled fists loosened and he flexed his fingers. I could hear his loud, slow breathing.
"Why are you here?" he growled. His British accent was like beautiful music to my ears.
"I heard about the things that lived in the forest and curiosity crept up on me. I've been going here for ages and I've seen nothing apart from tonight..." I replied in a mumble. My palms were dripping with sweat, as well as my forehead.
He laughed sourly, turning to face me. His golden eyes glistened fluorescently in the darkness of the forest. His lips curled up into a smirk. "There's a lot more things in this forest than you think, darling."
I nibbled away at my lip in worry. I thought of my new house. It was the closest one to the forest, so I could be closer to nature. I loved the forest. The fresh smell in the air, the tall winding trees, the different blooms of flowers that surrounded my new home; making it seem more open and welcoming. But the weight of the negative side pushed down on all the good things. What if Chad decided to come after me again? Or anything else in this forest? Would I be safe?
"I'll ask again," I said sternly, "what did you just do?"
"Oh, nothing much. Just gave him a couple of bruises and cuts. He'll heal soon enough. His mood swings have been playing up lately."
"You guys are friends?" My eyebrows rose.
"Of course. Otherwise he wouldn't have ran away like he did."
"But I thought vampires and werewolves hated each other?"
"In some cases they do, in some cases they don't. In our case, Chad and myself have been travelling together for a while. We're like brothers in a way. We protect each other. We're on a journey to find peace against the war."
"Dammit, Stephenie Meyer, you were all wrong!" I muttered under my breath. I guessed he heard me because, there was a spot of confusion on his face. I shook my head back into reality. "There's a war?"
He nods. "Between all magical creatures in existence. They all loathe upon each other and plan to destroy each other so only their kind remains."
"Why?" I asked, feeling intrigued.
"Do you always ask this many questions?!" He barked. I shut right up then. There was something about his eyes when he said that, they turned from a treacle gold to a coal black. It was the strangest thing I'd ever seen. "Now," he continued, "what is your name?"
"B-Bobby." I stuttered. "Bobby Jane Valentine. But most people just call me Boa."
"I'd rather just call you Bobby." He sneered.
"Really, Boa's just fi--".
"Bobby." I nodded immediately.
"Well it's really late...so I'm just going to go home now..." I backed away slowly.
"Good." He spat. "And don't come back here. Ever. Understand?"
"Uh-huh." Was my only response, and then I ran. Ran as fast as my legs could carry me. All that was on my mind at that moment was Chad. The way his perfect brown eyes just burned through mine at that moment just before he was about to rip my throat out. The way he looked at me, it just made me want to melt into him.
