Just a dream?

Class was like an episode of charlie brown, I was so tired and so bored that Mr. Brewers voice became an annoying  tone that droned on and on.

Bwah, Bwah, Bwah, Bwah.

My head lulled in my hands as I fought tooth and nail to stay awake. It was maybe twenty minutes till class ends and the mechanics of writing our college essay was lulling me to sleep faster than a valium.

" Mr. DaMarco I would offer you a blanket and some warm milk but It seems your doing fine on your own, please make an effort to stay awake."

He looked like santa in a Hawaiian shirt, and his less than jolly belly pulled the colorful button up shirt tight. He eyed me from over the paper he was reading from with his lips curled into a smirk. The class erupted in small chuckles and sly comments, but I could care less.

"Sorry Brewer, just had some of your milk and cookies."

Brewer was well aware of the running santa joke we had about him, he even grew out his snow white beard before winter break just for our class party. Not loosing his sly grin he mumbled a wake up and continued to teach.

I wiped a hand across my face hoping to god I hadn't drooled like an idiot. Too bad my sleeve was wet.

"Dude, whats wrong you sick or somethin?"

Cole who had been sitting next to me since practically the second grade, whispered. His bright red hair stood out like flames against his ivory skin. Shoot he was so pale his his freckles looked like pen pricks.

I nodded no swiping a hand through my already unkempt chocolate brown hair.

"Your still coming over for Halo right?"

I nodded again covering my mouth as I yawned.

Brewer droned on and on as he scribbled on the white board in his heart beat like penmanship. The classroom door was wide open, giving me a perfect view of students meandering to their lockers. But I took my time to analyze Brewers extensive VHS collection. They sat piled high on top of two black filling cabinets in the corner near the door. Brewer had everything from the original Day the Earth Stood Still to Dr. Strangelove, not that he'd let us watch any of them.

Turns out not even Brewers vast collection of movie titles could keep me awake. My eyelids began to drift shut again but this time I didn't fight it. I tucked my head into my head into the crook of my folded arms and breathed in deep the clean smell of laundry detergent on my slate grey sweater.

My breaths became slower and the sound quickly lulled me to sleep.

                                                                   ***

My head snapped up so quick I got a head rush. My vision was blurry and I was seriously groggy. I pressed the heals of my hands into my eyes, trying to dispel the fog that hung over my vision. With a final yawn I opened my eyes and was greeted with an empty classroom.

Damn how long was I out?

It was the afternoon and the light that shown through the crooked blinds cast an equally crooked shadow over half of the classroom. I looked at the clock, and struggled to remember which hand means what.

1:30

Leave it to Brewer to have a clock that was an entire hour off. I took one more look around the classroom, but no one was left, not even Cole—that dick!
