I wake up to a blaring alarm at 6 am, swearing because it's the middle of summer and that means I have absolutely no reason to be awake. I shut off the alarm and try to go back to sleep. Failing miserably, I decide to roll out of bed and enjoy the quiet house while I can.
After grabbing a granola bar, I check my phone and see a text from Amber.
"had a lot of fun friday nite!! ;) when can i see u again?"
I'm suddenly reminded of the crazy night a had just 2 days ago.
~FLASHBACK~
"Truth or dare?" Amber asks with a smirk, clearly hoping I choose dare.
"Dare." I reply confidently, "Why even ask? I ain't no wuss."
"I didn't think so." the cute blonde girl says, "I dare you to kiss me- on the lips."
I shrug and lean in to give her a quick peck, but she pulls me in for a real kiss before I have a chance to move. After a second I kiss her back, tasting the peppermint gum she was chewing a few minutes prior. After what could've been seconds and could've been hours, I hear Callie calling my name.
"Earth to Alex and Amber!" she yells. I pull away then make eye contact with Amber for an awkward half second before turning to Allie.
"Sorry about that!" I say with a smile. "Now where were we...? Oh yeah, Callie truth or dare?"
We continue playing truth or dare, but my mind is out of the game. I kissed a girl! This was not where I thought I would be the summer before starting 7th grade, but it is and if I'm being honest with myself, I'm loving it. I quickly accept the fact that I am in no way straight as I thought I was a mere hour ago, and continue smiling and playing games with Callie and Amber.
The night goes on like any other sleepover with three middle school-age girls would until it's time to go to sleep. Laying in a twin sized bed with Amber, I try to ignore the furious beating of my heart until it is no longer possible. I lean over and kiss her she melts into it. Soon, she's on top of me and we're in a full on make-out session, with Callie sleeping obliviously across the room.
~END FLASHBACK~
I'm shocked back to reality when my mom enters the room carrying a cup of black coffee. My mom. I suddenly realize that the whole "not straight" thing could change my family life.
