My first week in the new town went by fast and soon enough it was the weekend. Daniel had thought it would be a good idea to celebrate the new addition to the gang, so he threw a small party at his place.

As soon as I stepped foot onto the back porch I was bombarded with cheers, laughter, music and colorful lights. I still don't know how a group of six teens created such an exciting scene.

I was pulled into the excitement by Brooke, who immediately started dancing with me to the loud song. She laughed at my awed face, I hadn't completely grasped the fact that I wasn't dreaming yet.

After a few songs and my pathetic attempts to dance without falling on my face, I broke away from the dancing and leaned against the table with the refreshments to catch my breath. Daniel soon joined me and poured two glasses of soda. He handed me one and smiled warmly.

"Are you enjoying yourself?" He asked over the music.

I simply nodded, taking a sip of my drink. He grinned and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

"You know, you're very pretty," he said casually. The comment took me by surprise and I almost choked on the soda.

"W-what? Where did that come from?" I asked, a little embarrassed.

He shrugged, "I don't know. I just think you're really cute Rea. Especially when you're blushing like that." He brushed my cheek with his thumb and I blushed ten shades redder.

"Oh-I-" I stuttered, not knowing what to say.

Before I knew what was happening he had leaned down and kissed my lips. Instinctively, I jumped back, breaking away from the kiss before it could progress. He looked at me with a blank face, his expression unreadable.

"I'm sorry Reagan, I didn't mean to...I didn't know.." He tried to apologize.

"It's fine Daniel, really.." I comforted, confused. I glanced away just in time to see Brooke disappear into the house, a delicate hand raking through her brown hair.

"I'll be right back," I said, following Brooke into the house and leaving Daniel hanging. I found her crying in the sanctuary, where the gang usually hangs out.

"Babe what's wrong?" I asked approaching her. She quickly wiped away the tears and turned to me.

"Go away," she demanded, but her expression pleaded for me to stay. I placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. It was odd looking at her, her usually happy face streaked with tears.

"Whats wrong Brooke?" I asked. She hesitated before answering.

"It's Daniel-" I cocked my head, interested. She sighed and silent tears rolled down her cheeks. I gently wiped them away with my thumb.

"I like him okay? I like him-a lot. And i have for a long time too... But even when I've never been closer to him, I'm completely invisible to him." She broke off, biting her lip to hold back a sob.

"And then you come along and he's all head over heels for you," she stopped, tears pouring down her face now.

I didn't know how to compute this information. Up until the kiss, I hadn't even known he was in the least bit interested in me. My throat clenched, I didn't want to be in this situation. I didn't like Daniel like that, and I sure as heck didn't want to be hurting Brooke like this. I hugged Her tightly, reassuringly.

"Hey, look it's okay, I'm not going to take him from you I promise. Listen, you are beautiful, and there is absolutely no way that he hasn't noticed that," I whispered into her ear while I held onto her.
