"Claire, hurry up you're going to be late for your first day of school!" I groan. Ugh, school. "Coming mom!" I trudge down the stairs as slowly as I can with a scowl on my face. "Mom do I really have to do this?" My mom frowns, "Aw come on honey, it's your first day at a new school! You should be more excited than this."
I roll my eyes and fake a smile, "Yay...look mom I'm so excited." She shakes her head and a small smile plays on her lips. "Don't be so dramatic. I'm sure you'll be fine, now come on I'm taking you today."
On the ride to school all I can think about is the bad time I'm going to spend in school. I'm not exactly an outcast, but all my friends are back in a different place. Over the summer my parents had both gotten a promotion in their current jobs and while we weren't going to a different state, we definitely had to move to another city, one approximately 3 hours away from the people I knew. Yippee for me right? I got to make new and exciting friends. No, a hard no.
We get closer to the entrance of the school, Cellar Way High School, what kind of name is that? So many people walking into the school, making my stomach feel queasy. Ugh. "Uh, mom, are you sure I can't be homeschooled?" She laughs, "Oh come on, it can't be that bad can it?" I nod my head, "Trust me, when you're as awkward as I am it can get bad very fast." She laughs again and tells me to stop joking, practically forcing me out of the car. Wow mom, I thought you loved me.
I awkwardly put on my backpack and with the saddest skip in my step, head indoors. Then...I remember I forgot my phone in the car. Shit. I run as fast as I can to catch up to my mom's car and yell at her but she doesn't hear me. It's too late when I hear someone scream "Watch out!" and I trip on a traffic cone.
