CHAPTER 10

WHO WAS I KIDDING.

Avoiding my ass. We were sharing the same tent, and yesterday the same bed.
That group dad spoke about, they were here.

Scanning the crowd, out of habit.
You won't believe who I saw!
I didn't believe it myself until I pinched myself three times.

It was that irritating, shameless bastard, but more like a really cute one.
The guy was about the same height as dad's, he had green blingy eyes, it was clear he worked out, but his face was still chubby. His hair was spiked up towards the right side in a sexy manner, he had a well-trimmed beard, which looked great with the structure of his face. He was wearing black jeans, a white shirt, with its top buttons open which showed of his collar bones, his Adams Apple was visible making him look mature and the sleeves of his shirt were rolled up, showing off his biceps.
He caught a glimpse of me and smirked, forming a dimple on his left cheek.
I was squinting my eyes and thinking about how he still had the balls to smirk.

He wasn't the only person who caught my eye.

From one end came running towards me, the person I was so glad to see. I had never thought, that I'd be so glad about the fact that I really did have a friend.
Kriti jumped on to me giving me a bear hug, I couldn't stop myself.
I hugged her back really tightly. I realized having a friend actually felt good.
The words "I love you so much" escaped from the mouth of a girl who kept the world at a distance.
Hearing that Kris went "Awwwweeeeee, I love you more baby."

Arian, probably noticed Maddie staring at me.

"Who is this and?" He spoke from behind me. 

My hands started getting sweaty and itchy with him so close behind me.
My heart started beating faster.

"None of your business." I started walking away from him.

"Hi, I'm Kriti." "I'm Arian and you are very cute, it's a pleasure to meet you." "Are you hitting on me, already?!", she joked.

I was walking backward since I had turned around to see Kriti introduce herself to Arian.' Ooouuuchh...' I bumped my head into someone's chest. As if there weren't already enough complications in my life that I had to bump into Maddie."Hey, Pheana." Okay, this guy had changed a lot since back then. His voice held a tinge of excitement but it was still heavy."He...Hi Maddie..." Great, now I was stuttering.

Those green eyes stared right into mine.
"Ana, you know Maddie!?" Couldn't this girl ever be a little less excited?
I wondered where she got all that energy from.
Arian, cleared his throat as if waiting for an explanation.
Sigh.
"Yes, we know each other Kriti." Maddie took off. "Pheana and I were neighbors and best friends, long back. She was 3 and I was 5. When she turned 13 her parents decided to shift."
Listening to that, both Arian and Kris were giving me a shocked look. "Best friends?" They both spoke in a surprised manner together.
Jeez, these guys.
"Well, I was actually the only person she spoke to, after turning 10."
I was really irritated at Maddie for acting so cool.
Cool as though nothing had ever happened. As if everything was perfectly okay after all that, honestly I didn't want to even be in the same space as his.
Being furious I started walking away.
Maddie grabbed me. I smacked his hand away.
"Don't you dare!" I spoke. Flabbergasted, he let go with a look of shame.
That was the end of my interaction with everybody until the bonfire.

At the bonfire, the adults were of course drinking and stuff. A guitar was brought and kept in the area as well.
Apparently, I didn't know that the guitar belonged to me.
I was told so by my father after it had been placed right next to me.
Since I refused to play the guitar or speak to anybody, Arian picked up the guitar, sat down next to me on the log.
He winked at Diego and Cristina.
Diego made a gesture with his hand and in came the Casio and the set of dumbecs.
My father took one dumbec, Arian's dad took one and the rest were taken by some of those who wanted to play.
Lana played the Casio.

The sound of music is so relaxing, it can really change a person's mood.
A few beats later Kriti started singing, who was joined in by Diego.
I had to say, both their voices were amazing.
Lana walked up to Diego and asked him to dance with her. Her spot was taken by Maddie.
All the elders joined in with their partners.

Arian elbowed me, I looked at him, was it the weather and the ambiance or just the way his eyes were wanting me. Probably both or that's how I felt.

Kriti, Diego and the dumbecs had stopped and we were waiting to start the next song on Arians beats.

He stared straight into my eyes, played the next beat and sang " You and I, we don't want to be like them, we can make till the end, nothing can come between You and I. Not even the gods above can separate the two of us, no, nothing can come between, you and I...." his voice was music to my ears. It was sexy, it was soothing and to add it all together, the look he gave, it was of pure sincerity.

Maddie picked up the next one,
"Ohhh you and I.
I figured it out, I figured my mistakes of ups and downs. Silence in sound..."
I was still mad at him, but he was seemingly apologizing.

The elders were tired, so they moved to their respective tents.
The fire was still burning, only with the six of us around it.

Everybody was just staring at me. After a bit of 'awkward silence'.
"Finally, will you tell us why you're mad at Maddie?" Spoke Kris.
"You didn't ask him?" I replied.
"I refused to tell them. I wanted to hear your side of the story." Said, Maddie.

"That's convenient." I gave him an angst look.

I actually saw this as an opportunity to get rid of him, "Fine", I said.
