"And folks, your first place winner of Miss Teen Pittsburg twenty sixteen  is," the guest judge called out through his microphone at the line of anticipated teenage girls in front him, "Miss Kendall Vertes!" . My name. I won Miss Teen Pittsburg twenty sixteen. Lucky me I thought as I walked over to the judge and collected my prize; a cheap plastic crown and a very-easily-to-tear sash that hung along my fat rolls and oversize stomach. God I was ugly, why do they do this to me I thought again, forcing a flashy white smile to the camera, snapping photos in front of me that will be in all the news stands tomorrow, and the audience who were faking their smiles too. God this world is fake. After another twenty minutes of photos being taken and blinding me, and loads of other girls my age, prettier if not more stunning girls my age congratulating me, I quickly ran of the stage where the pageant was being held and met my mom who was waiting for me in the wing.

"Mom!" I exclaimed, happy to see a familiar and genuine face. I embraced her in a big hug. Well big coming from my side of it all.

"Well done darling," she congratulated, admiring the crown on top of my head. "You would have thought that the crown would at least be a bit bigger then the one you got for second place last year." She finished. I rolled my eyes at her, knowing that her happiness for me wasn't going to last.

"Mom just leave it, like anyone cares anyways," I shrugged, waving her wandering hand away from my head.

"I care that my daughter is going to be the most beautiful girl in the world. Also watch your hesitated answers next time, it may come off as rude." My mom went on, arching up her eyebrows as if not knowing the answer to end world hunger was my fault.

"Yeah okay mom, I'll remember that for next time." I smiled, slipping away from her and heading towards the changing room I'd been assigned. I forced the stiff door open and found it empty and cleared of the other two girls I was sharing it with. Guess they don't like being sore losers I thought. I flicked the light on and adjusted my eyes to the bright light illuminating the dim room. I faced my mirror and peeled off my sweaty pale pink dress I had worn for the awards. I threw of the crown with it and ripped the sash off. There in the reflection was a large, ugly girl, staring back at herself and hating every curve on her. I'm so ugly I thought. I breathed in as much as I could and smiled at the instant flat stomach that came with it. I quickly changed back into my sweats and over sized grey hoodie and cleaned up my mess. I shoved the majority of things into my bag and hung my gowns and dresses up if their little traveling bag. My makeup that was spread everywhere was safely packed into the makeup travel case I brought with me and the shoes I left scattered around the place was neatly in the shoe carrier. I sighed at the now clean room and flicked the light switch back off. I exited the room and smashed into someone on my way out.

"Sorry," I apologised, looking down at my shoe.

"No it's my fault, would hate to break the prettiest girl in Pittsburg," a soft voice replied back. I looked up to see who I crashed into and noticed it was Josh Hyland, the most popular boy at my school.

I just laughed, unsure of what to do. I wasn't really popular at school, with all my titles from pageants, you would think that I am when in fact I'm completely opposite.

"Are you here to collect Paige?" I asked, now making eye contact with him. Even without moving his lips you could tell from his eyes that we has smiling.

"Yeah, she'll be a bit annoyed you beat her but she'll call down." He laughed.

Paige Hyland was Josh's younger sister who followed exactly in her brothers footsteps in my year. She of course was the most popular girl in my Junior year.

"Right well anyways I better be go-"

"Hey me and mates and Paige and her friends are going out to get some pizza now, would you like to come with us?" He asked, his eyes smiling again with him.

The thought of pizza sounded great but then I looked down and remembered. It will only make you fatter, would you like that? I shook my head at his offer and met eyes with him again, "no thank you. Enjoy your night though." I smiled and walked off.
