As soon as Israel opened the pot, a sense of dread filled him. What had he done? The whole room suddenly stank of pure evil. What had he unleashed? His hands shook uncontrollably as he looked inside the container. Thick darkness. He could actually smell death. Immediately, a screaming noise filled his ears and he dropped the pot. As it crashed to the floor, dark smoke billowed out of its remains and assaulted him. Red glowing eyes stared at him through the dense blackness and burned his irises. He opened his mouth, but his scream was caught in his throat. Losing his footing, the boy fell to the ground and covered his ears, but the screams of pain and hatred kept coming. "Stop!" Israel yelled, "Get away from me!" He felt the strange creature grab hold of his arms. "No!" Israel shouted, kicking and squirming. Suddenly, it all stopped. Israel did not dare open his eyes, fearing the terrifying being would attack him again. He felt something grab his shoulder and he began to lash put with his leg. "Get off!" he exclaimed. "Israel!" came a reply. Israel opened his eyes and saw Jim standing over him, a worried expression on his face.

"What happened?" he asked, "What's wrong? You dropped that pot and began to wriggle on the floor." Israel took a deep breath and blinked. Had his stepfather not seen the horrifying.... thing? Maybe he had been imagining the encounter. Jim took his hand and felt his stepson's forehead. "You're burning and you're sweating. Is there something wrong? Are you okay?" Israel shook his head, mostly to get the memory of the beast out of his head, and stood up. "I-I'm fine. It's okay." He glanced over at Tina and Taran, who were giving him quizzical stares. They knew something was up.
