You're good. Breathe. Everything is gonna be fine, I thought. I shut off the water and got out, wrapping myself in a towel. Thunder rolled and I froze.
No. You got this. It is just thunder. You are inside. It cannot hurt you, I thought. I took a deep breath and got dressed. When I put on the shirt Austin brought me, I realized it fell halfway to my knees. I looked in the mirror and realized it was Austin's shirt. I smiled and opened the door, walking into my room. Just as I walked in, thunder crashed so loud it shook the apartment and I screamed, my legs collapsing underneath me. Lightning flashed again and thunder hit and the lights went out and I screamed over and over. I heard someone fall on the stairs and then someone busted into my room and held me. I kept screaming until I heard Austin's voice.
"Averly, it's okay. I'm here. I've got you, I'm here. Babe, I'm here," he whispered in my ear. He fell on the floor beside me and held me in his arms. I stopped screaming and wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck, clinging to him. He held me tightly and stood up, laying down in my bed with me still in his arms.
I felt the bed sink and peeked up. Katia. I moved closer to Austin so she could lay beside me. I fell asleep with my head on Austin's chest and Katia's back pressed into mine.
